Cost of an E74 fix?

Hello!

I'm a long time lover of the Xbox and Xbox 360, not to mention Microsoft themselves. I moved in for school last week, and updated my Xbox 360, as it was apparently time. The xbox is relatively old, the exact date I'm not sure (I traded my PS3 for it, an amazing deal for me I must add) but I'm assuming it's no longer covered by warranty, I no longer have the papers regardless.

The xbox worked for a few days quite happily, when I noticed some odd fuzziness whilst playing a game stored on my hard-drive (120GB), and just assumed the cord was loose. So I turned my xbox off, got up, ensured that the cord was in snugly on both sides and turned the xbox back on.

Upon pressing the button, A red light was shown in the bottom right hand corner of the light ring. I thought this was odd, as RROD covers three rings, not the one. Then the screen came to the error screen reading Error code E74.

Upon research it's an audio/visual  error, which upset me further. I tried playing around with the cords, and decided that wasn't the issue.

Obviously I need to either have my xbox repaired or, of course, replace it.

Does anyone happen to know the cost of sending my xbox off to repair this issue? And if not, will my 120GB HDD work with the Xbox slim? Like I said, Im a new student and have very limited cash to fix my xbox... Please let me know.

Thanks!!

Travis Hay, From Toronto, Ontario.

papers doesn't matter

you can call support and see if you are still under the 3 year warranty (doubtful) if you create a repair order online at xbox.com you can reduce the cost to 99dollars (you can also check to see if its a free repair that way too) if still under warranty it would say 0dollars

having an agent do the repair order for you is 119dollars depending on your region (cost is region dependent)

I just did the repair request, and it turns out it's no longer under warranty (I'm really not surprised) and that the cost will be $123 at the cheapest.

Hey there haytrav3,  If I may just suggest something even though you wrote back in September and you may have already gotten an answer or maybe replaced the console, but just in case you have not I was looking some information up if you ever have the issue again and you can try borrowing a friends AV cable or you can go to a local gamestop if you have one out in Toronto, Ontario if not then maybe a gaming store may be able to help you by hooking their cables up to see if it was indeed maybe your cables. I know I posted below what the E74 error is, but that claim as well in some cases it can be a chip or the GPU. I do hope that your situation has gotten resolved since then.

E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try using a different AV cable. If the cable is known to be working then there is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU.
