I am unable to install the drivers for the keyboard and mouse on Windows XP.

Let us start with a few questions-                                     

1)      What is the make and model of the USB keyboard and the mouse?

2)      Do you get any error message or error code?

3)      Have you made any changes on the computer earlier?

You can try booting past the Welcome Screen with a different keyboard and mouse.

Method 1–

I would have you disconnect the keyboard and mouse and try booting into the computer. Check if it helps.

I would also have you boot into Safe Mode as well.

Note: Make sure you get the computer back to Normal Mode after performing the troubleshooting steps.

You need to perform the steps from the subsequent Methods only, if you are able to boot to the desktop.
