I am unable to install the drivers for the keyboard and mouse on Windows XP.

I bought a new USB keyboard and USB Mouse that IS compatible with Windows XP, but I cannot use the keyboard or mouse until I log onto Windows so it can install the drivers for it!!! and I CANNOT log onto windows via the welcome screen because both my keyboard and mouse WILL NOT work at the welcome screen because the driver isn't installed yet!!! is there ANY way I can get past this roadblock so Windows can install the drivers as necessary???

Hi justinrpg7,

Thank you for posting your query in the Microsoft Community. You seem to have an issue with installing the drivers for the USB mouse and keyboard on Windows XP. We can get this issue fixed by proceeding systematically. It might be frustrating for you. But, rest assured we are here to help you.

Let us start with a few questions-

1)      What is the make and model of the USB keyboard and the mouse?

2)      Do you get any error message or error code?

3)      Have you made any changes on the computer earlier?

I would like more information regarding the issue.

You can try booting past the Welcome Screen with a different keyboard and mouse.

Method 1–

I would have you disconnect the keyboard and mouse and try booting into the computer. Check if it helps.

I would also have you boot into Safe Mode as well.

Refer the article-

To start the computer in safe mode

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true

Note: Make sure you get the computer back to Normal Mode after performing the troubleshooting steps.

You need to perform the steps from the subsequent Methods only, if you are able to boot to the desktop.

Method 2-

I would have you run the fixits-
