Sound works through headphone jack but not internal speaker

While listening to Pandora today my internal speaker simply stopped playing, but sound still works through the headphone jack. It's not on mute, and I did a troubleshooting check. When I checked the sound meter, it is moving as if it is still plugged in to a headphone jack, which it is not. Any ideas what suddenly happened and how to fix it?

Hi,

1. What is the make and model of your computer?

In solving the problem you can follow the steps provided below.

Step 1:

a. Click Start, type Sound in the Start Search box.
b. Click Sound in the search results at the top of the Start menu.
c. Click the Playback tab. Notice the check mark next to the default device. For most users, the default device is internal Speakers. Make sure that your audio settings are configured as expected.

Step 2:

Follow these steps:

a. On the Playback tab,
b. select the playback device.
c. click Properties, click the Advanced tab and make sure that the Default Format is set to the value that you expect.
d. When you finish, close this window to return to the previous window.

Let’s check the configuration settings.

a. On the Playback tab.
b. Select the playback device.
c. Click Configure and then make sure the configurations are set correctly.

If the sound settings are set correct, and your internal speakers are already set as the default device.

Select the sound device that you want as the default sound device, and then click Set Default.

Click OK to save your settings and to close the Sound dialog box.

Step 3:

If the issue still persists then you may try uninstalling the drivers for the sound card and then reinstalling the drivers.

a. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
b. In Device Manager, locate the device, right click on it and uninstall.
c. Restart the computer.
d. Let Windows 7 detect the drivers by itself and install. If that does not help, install the latest drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

To download the drivers you may visit your manufacturer's website.
