Error "Could not initialize graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with DirectDraw" when trying to open Age of Empire II

·        Do you get this message immediately when you try to open the game?

Age of Empires II is compatible with Windows Vista. Refer the below mentioned link.

Method 1: Try updating the computer`s graphics drivers and check if the issue persists.Also, look for the latest chipset drivers. You can log on to your computer/motherboard manufacturer website for the same.

Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly

Make sure you have the latest Windows Updates installed. Check for the optional updates as it may have the required drivers.

Install Windows updates

Method 2: Try creating a new desktop shortcut and check for the issue. To do this:

a)      Right-click the desktop, point to  New and then click Shortcut.

b)      Click Browse and go to the location Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires.

c)      Click the  Empires.exe file.

d)      Now click  Open\OK, Next and then Finish.

Note: Delete the existing shortcut on the desktop if you have, before attempting this method.
