Cannot access credentials manager

I need to delete an old windows live ID that I think is stored in the credential manager. However, I cannot access the credential manager, and recieve the error 'You do not have permission to save files to this location. Select a different location.' Error Code: 0x80070005 Error Message: Access is denied.

Process Monitor utility from Windows SysInternals might help in this case.

I fixed the issue by going to the user\username\appdata\roaming\Microsoft\protect and deleting a file called "CREDHIST"....just mnake sure that you do not have Credential Manager at the time.

I've spent many hours trying to resolve this Error Code: 0x80070005 Error Message: Access is denied issue. 

I tried many suggestions I picked up searching the internet.

FINALLY, a slight modification to "the fix" that worked for you has now worked for me too.               I fixed the issue by going to the user\username\appdata\roaming\Microsoft\protect and deleting a file called                  "CREDHIST"....just mnake sure that you do not have Credential Manager at the time.

There was no "CREDHIST" file to be found on my computer so I deleted the "Protection" file and that did the trick.
