Hi,

Microsoft created the KB article KB2028504 [1] with information about the Kernel Power 41 issue.

Are you able to find anything inside the article which helps you?

best regards
André

I have looked at that KB article and have not really found anything which helps me. Scenario 1 does not apply because all of my bugcode check values are 0. Scenario 2 does not apply because I am not physically holding down the power button to shut down the computer and I do not believe scenario 3 applies because I do not overclock or anything, my psu is more than sufficient, RAM is fine, I do not think it is a heating problem because sometimes I can play for hours without the problem occurring. However, I have turned off automatic restart as the article suggested, will advise later if this solution seems to work or not. Also under symptoms my "powerbuttontimestamp" does not show that value of "129165039139928187", mine shows "0", I am not sure whether that makes a difference or not.

Hi rosfeld604,

1. Does the system crash only when you play the games?
2. Who is the vendor of the game?

Step 1: We recommend you to try the steps mentioned in the given article and check the result as one of the symptoms of the problem is "the computer restarts unexpectedly" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303032

Step 2: We also recommend you to update the hardware devices on your computer.

Syed V,

Yes my system only does crash when I play games. This problem has  occurred while playing multiple games by different developers. A few I can think of off the top of my head is dragon age origins, Ghost warrior sniper(this is the most recent one, made by City interactive), and mass effect 2, . Concerning step 1 I have looked at that article and disabled auto restart other than that I am not sure what else to do. Also, all of my hardware drivers are up to date.

Thanks,

Rosfeld604

If it happens while playing games, your power supply may be to weak.

Which graphics card do you have?

I am starting to think this problem only occurs for certain games. I was able to play Arma 2: operation Arrowhead for about 2.5 hrs straight last night with no problem at all.

Hi rosfeld604,

Play the game that's causing the issue and when the issue persists, check the event logs to find that's causing the issue.

The Performance Monitor can be used to visualize performance data, see Using Performance Monitor

I'm encountering this problem under different circumstances:  typically when walking away from the computer and it's left idle doing nothing.  Unfortunately, it's happening on two different laptops and one desktop.  One laptop is not used for gaming, and is 6 months old.  The desktop is brand new and hardware all tests fine (Memtest, benchmarking/stress tests, etc.).  And the other laptop is 3 years old but running on a clean installation of Windows 7.  Since it happens when the computer is *not* under stress, I've been at a bit of a loss as to what to do.  In fact, I've never had any of these machines do this when I'm actually using them!

I've seen two suggestions come up consistently when I search elsewhere:

1) Memory management in Windows 7 and the way the Embedded Controller/North Bridge handle calls.  Other forums then point to BIOS updates for older hardware to better support Windows 7 (in the case of the 6-month-old laptop, this is exactly why a BIOS update was released shortly after the unit shipped).  Some people indicate slightly raising voltage to EC/NB resolved the issue, but I'm NOT recommending anyone fiddle with voltage settings--I'm very reluctant to do anything like that (and besides, the laptops don't have that kind of granular control in the BIOS anyway).

2) Hibernation/standby related issues...which would explain why in my case the BSOD/reboot/Event ID 41 being logged occurs when the machine is idle.

Summary:

Older Laptop:  Sager NP9620 (manufactured 10/2007), Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Newer Laptop:  Sager NP9850 (manufactured 12/2009), Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Desktop:  Alienware Area-51 ALX (manufactured 4/2010), Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

No overclocking here...I'm more than content with good stock hardware.
