Hi. I installed Windows7 RC1 on a partition of my HP notebook (Vista licensed). The internet navigation with the internal WiFi interface is fast, but when I start a download, the data speed quickly decreases to near 100 Bytes / second ! If at the same
time I use another netbook attached on my personal WiFi network (this one based on XP SP3), the same download runs at fast speed. May be there is some parameter to change in order to obtain full download speed on Windows 7 ? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.
Thanks for posting to the Getting Ready for Windows 7 community forum.
Since the issue occurs during download, is there a third party virus scanner running on this system? Is there a definition that might be activated when downloading from the internet?
What you may do to troubleshoot this issue is boot your system in a clean boot state, remember this will make your system vulnerable so use this limitedly to troubleshoot and be certain of what you choose to download from the internet when troubleshooting this
issue.
To boot in a Clean Boot state
How-to run Windows in Selective Startup (Clean Boot)…
1.Click
Start, click Control Panel, click
System and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click
System Configuration.
2.Click
Continue, or provide Administrator credentials if prompted.
3.Click the
General tab, and click Selective startup.
5.Click the
Services tab, check the Hide all Microsoft services box, and then click
Disable all.
6.Click the
Apply, then OK, and then
Restart.
After the system is restarted - Enable the services one by one and running a download test between each service to determinewhat
is conflicting with the download speed (Clean Boot)…
1.Click
Start, click Control Panel, click
System and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click
System Configuration.
2.Click
Continue, or provide Administrator credentials if prompted.
3.Click the
Services tab, check the Hide all Microsoft services box, and then click Enable on one or half of the services listed.
4.Click the
Apply, then OK, and then
Restart.
5. Try your download again. If the speed has decreased then one of the services started has caused the error. Try disabling those services one by one until the service is identified.
After identifying the service or startup issue, place your system back into a normal state (Clean Boot)…
1.Click
Start, click Control Panel, click
System and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click
