Microsoft wants to know - Anyone seeing issues with the April updates KB3147461 and KB3147458?

Hi folks!

It's Patch Tuesday again, and I thought I'd drop by with a request for help. If you're seeing any issues with the April updates (KB3147461 if you have the original version of Windows 10 and KB3147458 if you have the November Update installed) I'd like to hear about them.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for the next few days, so if you're seeing problems please post a reply and let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Hi John,

Since the update has completed my disk usage is constantly at 100, 97,98 % and I can't even open apps such as Edge.

I did not have this issue before the update and windows 10 was working fine for me.

Thanks,

Michael

Maybe that is why I have NOT had any MS install issues on our 3 different laptops over the years.  :)  The only installed Anti-virus I use is Webroot.  Any that came with the new laptops, are always completely uninstalled.  My oldest Laptop is a 6+ year old i5 Asus with ALL MS Upgrades...etc.  My wife uses that.

I do hear what you are saying and now remember one of our IT guys saying that numerous years back.  You might have a very VALID point.

Hi,

I have updated windows 10 (though not sure about the code names) and all my taskbar shortcuts have disappeared but one.

Also, my settings in Mozilla Firefox seem to have been erased.

Two of my desktop shortcuts seem to direct to the wrong location ("the item that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved").

Task manager > Startup shows nothing: "There are no startup items to display"

Any chance this could be related to the update? Since it happened just after it.

Thanks for your feedback

Hi John

I am trying to install the update, but I keep getting and error code Error 0x8e5e03fe. It downloads, says installing then nothing. It also will not install from back in March.

Any advice?

Running windows 10 pro 64bit.

Someone else reported going back a month in restore points:  https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/4egyrg/windows_10_april_updates_kb3147458_and_kb3147461/d21715g

Did a system restore to before the update (yesterday), system restore was successful, but no change to the operation of the computer.

Restarted system to go to Safe Mode/attempt another system restore and Windows installed KB3147458 again.

Error message somewhere in this process it gave a failed to install an update when doing restarts.

Attempted a system restore to farther in the past (04/02) but it failed with error 0x80070002.

Tried going through and killing processes of any background applications, no change.

Tried disabling all of the startup processes, no change.

Checked installed updates, saw that KB3147458 was installed again, uninstalled it and deleted contents of SoftwareDistributionDownload to try to prevent it from reinstalling.  Seemed to be successful, but computer was still broken.

Things I wanted to do but could not:

Access Services (window opens but hangs empty).

Access Windows Update (never opens (ms-settings:windowsupdate, the wait operation timed out) or in safe mode (immediately closes).

We're out of ideas other than reinstalling Windows (which seriously shouldn't be the answer).

Do you need my logs?

I noticed what I think must be a graphics card driver issue, affecting games played through Steam. I had played the same game several days ago without any issues, and had not changed anything else on my computer since then. After the update, when I open Steam and launch a game, the game begins to load and then Steam crashes a few seconds later. I originally checked on the Steam forums in case it was their issue, and found others with Windows 10 had seen the same problem.

I have an outdated graphics card which I know isn't supported any more (ATI Radeon HD 4200) and I'll be replacing it soon for that reason, but I thought I should mention this because even though it's old, it was still working fine with Windows 10 right up until the most recent update.

Can you post what game it is.

If I have it in my library I would like to

see if it playable or not on my system.
