Wdf01000.sys Latency - Windows 10

Hello, I recently started getting into audio recording and have been running into a lot of latency issues, audio interruptions, and cracks and pops while recording and using my fire wire connected interface. My computer has plenty of RAM, cpu, power and everything else. I have updated all my drivers to the best of my knowledge and now I cant even continue with using this operating system unless I find a fix here pretty quick. It was reported to me that the wdf01000.sys file has an extremely high execution time. Are there any known fixes or updates to address this??

Wdf01000.sys is a Microsoft driver file. The wdf01000.sys process should not be deleted or prevented from loading each time Windows loads.

We would like to know more about your wdf01000.sys and latency concern:

  • Were you getting errors with wdf01000.sys? If yes, Can you send us a screenshot?
  • Which program or application were you using in audio recording?
  • What equipment or devices were connected to your PC when you were recording audio?

Here is what is reported to me while I am using Ableton Live 9 and I am using a MOTU mk3 hybrid interface. I am able to monitor the output audio and the interface is not detecting the audio interruptions which tells me the interruptions happen between my interface and my computer. Also I have Windows 10 Pro if that changes anything. I only ran this test for 15 seconds and here are the results:

***Update***

I have removed the interface from the equation and Ableton live 9 for the past week. I am now only trying basics tasks like play audio from iTunes and have the browser open. However I am still experiencing latency from the same driver as well as some other Microsoft drivers.

Hi Jose, 

I have the exact same problem. I am using the DJ software Traktor with a Traktor Kontrol S8 Dj controller connected via usb 3.0. 

Wdf01000.sys seems also to be the problem for me. I runned LatencyMon, and it showed me that it was the problem, with the highest ISR routine DPC Routine execution time.

I manage to reduce the amount of lag and execution time by disabling my network adapters and audio device in device manager (Realtek) as Im using the audio device in my controller. 

I somewhat solve the problem, but it's still there after some time playing. I would like to find another way to solve this.

My computer settings performance are at the best.

I have an Asus ROG strix GL553V brand 

That picture is with adapters disabled

I can still hear distortion in audio

any suggestions for me on how to fix? ive tried disabling audio adapters, networks, and some drivers aswell. im currently using focusrite audio interface everything is updated

This DPC latency issue is a problem that's been persisting in Windows 10 since 2015, as far as google can tell, and steadily, with each and every new system update, more and more people are encountering this problem. It's very frustrating that it seems like these updates are untested, and we wish you would relay this to the development teams at Microsoft.

I have literally just re-installed Windows 10, and kept the Ethernet cord disconnected and had no wireless card plugged in before, during, and after the installation to ensure no updates are downloaded or installed.

Despite that, I still get, at minimum, 1000 µs DPC latency from wdf01000sys, seen in this screenshot (from DPC Latency Checker):

And this text readout from LatencyMon.exe:

I'm a little confused why DPC Latency Checker says I have, at minimum, 1000 µs of latency, and LatencyMon says I have a max of 81.6 µs of latency, but I choose to believe DPC Latency Checker. There are several screenshots online people who have DPC Latency Checker reporting a low (<100 µs) latency.

I only have a microphone, a webcam, a keyboard, and mouse plugged in, and disconnecting the mic and webcam does not effect the latency, whatsoever.

Multiple restarts and using my motherboard's CMOS clear switch does not help.

I have Windows 10 installed on a RAID0 array.

Please help, this has been a problem for several weeks, now.

I'm sorry, this is literally my kind of luck and I hate it.

Minutes after submitting my post, I edited my power plan settings to the following:

  • Disabled USB settings > USB selective suspend settings > Plugged in: Disabled.
  • Turn off PCI Express > Link State Power Management > Plugged in: Off.

And then I shut down my system and turned it back on (not a Windows Key > Restart, manual shutdown, manual power button press.)

And when I did that, this is what I now see from DPC Latency Checker:

500 is better, but not acceptable. It should be below 100 for a freshly installed system, and I will now try to replace all Windows drivers with as many provided by my motherboard manfacturer (Gigabyte.)
