CPU fan noise after Windows 10 install

I installed Windows 10 (upgraded from Windows 7) today. I noticed that the CPU fan has become very noisy and it spins continuously. Is there an issue with Windows 10. It was pretty silent until this morning (i.e on Windows 7)

I wish to continue to use Windows 10 because I like the look and feel but I am thinking of reverting back to Windows 7 since the fan noise gets irritating in Windows 10?

Is there any Microsoft guy who could possibly help me?

Hi mesnia ,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We will work together to check what is causing the fan issue in Windows 10.

We would like to know the following information to assist you better.

1. What is the memory/disk usage in task manager?

  • You may check this by typing Task Manager in the search box and hit Enter.

  • Check which application is taking more memory or disk usage.

We would also suggest you to boot into Safe Mode with Networking and check if you face the same issue.

You may use the steps mentioned in this link to boot to Safe Mode with Networking.

Hi Ravinath,

I did check the CPU utilization. Even on 2% utilization the noise can be heard. It was pretty silent with Windows 7. Please note that I haven't changed anything except update to Windows 10 on July 30th.

Also the CPU usage peaks up to 100% for a short duration even if I open a single  browser like Chrome. It seems that the CPU peaks up a lot than it was in Windows 7. And every time I open a new application or software  the CPU fan speeds up (i.e more noise) and slowly speed down but the noise can still be heard. So it is like, as and when I open up an application it gets noisier.

Task Manager Snapshot ( in this case there is a constant CPU fan noise)

Below is the point where I open a Chrome Browser. It is just a fraction of seconds but it makes the fan more noisy when the CPU peaks up and the noise fades to a point the CPU was in 2%.

The bottom line is any normal task I do, say Microsoft Word, Chrome upload, the fan quickly speeds up and make noise. Also the moment I open a heavier application like Adobe Photoshop the noise start right away.

Even in safe mode the noise persist.

There is something that is quite not right with Windows 10

regards

mesnia

Hey Everyone,

Not sure if everyone is having the same issue I was.  But I found that for me a process called "IAStorDataSvc" was eating up a ton of my CPU and Memory.  I did a little research and people said to update the driver or install the program, but do not install the driver, since it is useful/necessary.  Even when I stopped the process temporally, my fan speed slowed down considerably, then when I started the process again, the fan speed up again.  Not sure how, but after trying to update that driver, fan speed/heat doesn't seem to be issues any more. Sorry not an expert, just an average guy. Hope that helps.

Here's an article which seemed to help me:

Just spent almost 2 hours with Microsoft remotely trying to sort this for me but with no success.  I then searched on-line and found out about Runtime Broker using up 25% of my CPU which was causing my fan to go mad, what worked for me was disabling in setting (show me tips about windows) then restarting, this worked straight away, as soon as I enable it the fan goes mad again.  I told Microsoft this and they have made a note lol.

Im also having the fan issue (after windows 10 upgrade) and can not sort out why.

Also, anything i do/click is so very slow now to respond.  any1 else ?

Update: gone back to windows 7 and the fan problem has followed with me, the upgrade to 10 has now messed up my laptop and Microsoft do not care about the small number (getting bigger by the day) of us with these problems.

Same thing with me I have a samsung i3-2310m 2.1 ghz and 4gb ram with Intel HD 3000. My fan is noticeably running louder and is on more than Windows 7. I bought the laptop for its quietness and its noisy now....thinking of switching back to 7.
