set taskbar to auto-hide in tablet mode?

We’re sorry that the option to Auto-hide Taskbar only in Tablet mode is not available. You can set it to auto-hide in both normal and table mode.

Really?  Reaaaaally?  You guys build this whole new operating system, and you don't include the most grossly obvious feature?  I have a Surface Pro 2.  It comes with a windows button hardwired to the bottom (don't need another on the bar), and I have a 16x9 display, so I need as much vertical space as possible.

My experience with Windows 10 so far: "Wow, they've done so much great at stuff with windows 10.  Now all I have to do is get rid of this task bar, like it was in Windows 8 tablet mode.  There's no way they left out a feature that is that grotesquely obvious and necessary."

Sigh.

Well, you can set the taskbar to auto-hide. There's just no way to make it auto-hide only in tablet mode.

I was a big Windows 8 fan, and I think that with Windows 10, Microsoft's admirably managed the challenging balancing act of keeping the big forward-looking stuff from Windows 8 while making a more consistent overall experience and bringing along the many folks who were befuddled or frustrated by 8. Of course, Windows 10 also loses some things I liked from Windows 8, but that was probably inevitable. 

Why MS would not provide the simple option of auto-hiding the taskbar in tablet mode so that, by default, MUI apps run and are visible like they were in Win 8, is completely beyond me and baffling!

I don't even care if they appeased the masses and made the default such that the taskbar was visible.  What I do care about, however, is that they did not provide an option so that the rest of us who do like full-screen MUI apps, can continue to run them as such!

Now that I think about it, I think that MS was more concerned about getting non-Windows 8.x customers upgraded to Win 10.  Clearly, the MUI features that those of us have come to love were not as important.

I also really appreciate the advice from Alice. It is astonishing that Microsoft aspires to have a single operating system on multiple platforms, yet doesn't understand the fundamental importance of maximizing screen area on a tablet. My PC desktop has two screens and plenty of working area. My 10.1"HP tablet needs all the screen real estate it can get.

What is even more surprising is the fact that Microsoft did not react to this omission as soon as the issue was identified and fix it in one of the numerous updates - WAKE UP at the back, there!

Oh, and if MSFT wants to know how to do it, they should send a large number of $$$$ to Nibbler Apps at http://www.nibblerapps.com/free-trials/ - at one dollar per Windows10 tablet desktop sold, that should just about make up for the corporate oversight...
