Please stop pushing updates on me!  I am tired of them. I like the way Windows runs right now...I am not a Luddite, I just don't want the any more wonkyness or weird Chromium hybrid crapshoots.  Please, let me be!  In seven days, I don't want to have this argument again!  If I have to, I'll look for legal means....please just stop!!!

Hi Carl,

This is an optional D release update. To summarize, this update is the preview of the March Patch. No need to install unless you are looking for a fix specifically in the release notes.

Please read the following on about the update servicing here:

Windows 10 update servicing cadence

https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-it-pro-blog/windows-10-update-servicing-cadence/ba-p/222376

The “C” and “D” releases occur the third and fourth weeks of the month, respectively. These preview releases contain only non-security updates, and are intended to provide visibility and testing of the planned non-security fixes targeted for the next month’s Update Tuesday release. These updates are then shipped as part of the following month’s “B” or Update Tuesday release.

Oh, cool. I will update soon, :)

EDIT: "Updates an issue that prevents the Windows Search box from rendering properly." is for what I'm interested.

How do I uninstall this update?

I want my version of Word back to the way it was.

Specifically, I want to be able to "Review" + Alt-S. Not "Review" C1 (entire document).

You force these useless updates on us.

Along the way, you remove features that people - like me - actually use and rely on.

Stop it.

You should probably speak to someone at Microsoft bhringer is (as his profile says) a volunteer moderator for this Forum and a Microsoft Insider. Meaning that he or she is one of those brave souls who tests beta versions of these programs before they reach the general public.

Which is most of US.

bhringer doesn't get paid for this. What they get is the chance to play with the latest software and tools before the rest of us. At the potential risk of their hard drives (worst case scenario).

They do not MAKE these. They do not crate the updates. The Microsoft Engineers do that.

However, Windows 10 (released in 2015) is all about the updates.

"Windows as a service" requires them for a constantly evolving and progressive product.

If this is not what you want...consider another Operating System.

Well, ONE part of this update is optional and is offered as such. The rest isn't.

Hi DelosAVU

Thanks for picking up on that. I modified thread title again to indicate which update (KB4535996) is Optional. Thanks as well for the kind words in your previous post; not everyone recognizes the volunteer part of Volunteer Moderator.

The Windows Defender AV/AM platform update is normal monthly update of AV Client including AV Engine and bug fixes. It's not designated as a cumulative (although it may be considered as such) and so I did not include it in my original post. I'll edit to avoid confusion and hopefully add clarity.

This package includes monthly updates and fixes to the Windows Defender antimalware platform that is used by Windows Defender Antivirus in Windows 10. Monthly updates are installed in addition to major Windows 10 releases. Both types of updates should be installed to ensure continued protection against malware and other threats.
