Outlook, install of icloud, Views and filters stop working properly on contacts with more than one assigned category

There appears to be some bug in either outlook or icloud that affects contacts and views.

After installing icloud panel to allow my outlook information to sync to my iphone and ipads the custom views i created within the outlook application and use to filter and organize my contacts stopped working. The filter does execute correctly on contacts with no more than one assigned category. For contacts with more than 1 assigned category the filters ignore the contact and thus the view presents incomplete results.

If I disable the icloud panel ie log out, the folders and contacts residing under the icloud grouping move back to the original location under "my contacts" above and the views then execute fully and accurately. If I then re-enable the icloud, the contacts move back under the icloud grouping below and the views and filter stop functioning as described above. Looking at the categories assigned to the individual contacts, the categories are always viewable and present during each phase. It would appear that outlook is unable to properly execute a filter or see any categories assigned to contacts when contacts are under the icloud group and more than 1 category assigned to a contact.

The impact of this bug or limitation is significant and preclude use of categories for organization of contacts. Further i have software i use for labels and other function that depend on accurate execute of filters and views. Consequently to run this software i have to disable the icloud to perform such activities. Further I have found that repeated disabling and re-enabling of the icloud can trigger duplication of data within the freeform notes section of a contact. Cleaning up close to 1000 contacts is not fun.

Any solutions or workarounds would be appreciated

Based on hours of frivolous research, tech support and forum posting (time I cannot afford) and with gratitude to those that helped me understand this matter .. its my view the root of the problem is Apple’s decision to implement the icloud using a separate IMAP based pst file. Importantly IMAP apparently does not support categories. The iCloud software programmatically moves your contacts into a new and separate PST file as part of the install / enabling setup. Your original PST file is still there but your contacts and other similar data now reside in this new IMAP pst file located in a different location. The category information on your contact records is retained but it is just that Outlook cannot perform functions including views and filters on data that resides within an IMAP pst. Now clearly apple did this with full knowledge of the technical limitations of IMAP and that doing so would cause users to lose functionality within outlook.  Now my concern is for the user / customer and the end result. Yes I think Microsoft could be magnanimous and add code to reach into the contact records to interpret the category data that is clearly still available and present on the records. But I would have to say apple deserves the blame here. I took this matter up as high as I could both at Microsoft and at Apple via paid tech support. Both point fingers at the other but neither offered  the user / customers a solution.
