error message when running scanpst.exe

i could not find the scanpst.exe on my computer so i downloaded a free version.  when i try to run it i get this error msg almost immediately: "An unexpected error prevented access to this file. Use ScanDisk to check the disk for errors and then try using the Inbox Repair Tool again"

What's up?

Thanks,

Cullen

Answer

Try the below,

Method 1:

Refer the articles below to find and run scanpst for Outlook.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287497

Note: If you are using Windows vista 64bit Operation system, then you will find scanpst in the below location.

C:\Porgram files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office 12\scanpst.exe

Method 2:

Follow the steps below and do a check disc.

Note: Make sure to back up the important data before check disk is performed.

1.       Click on start and in start search type 'cmd' without quotes.

2.       Right click on cmd.exe and run as administrator.

3.       In the window, type ‘chkdsk /r’ without quotes and click enter.

4.       Close the window when completed and reboot the computer.

5.       Run scanpst on the pst and check if it helps.

If the above fails, refer the link below, for issues when scanpst fails.
