Reinstalling Office 365 following 'The ordinal 5640 could not be located in the dynamic link library' message.

A Windows 8.1 user, I found that 'The ordinal 5640 could not be located in the dynamic link library' message was preventing me from opening Outlook, Word and then all other programs, I researched possible answers. Suggested was  opening 'Programs and Features', right clicking MN Office 365 and clicking 'Change'. The 'Rapid Repair' option offered had no result so I tried the alternative 'Online Repair'.  Without warning, this simply uninstalled all of my Office 365 programs. May I ask for advice on recovering them, please?

As you are using Windows 8.1, you should change your "Applies to" from Windows 10 to Windows 8.

It isn't unusual for an online repair to uninstall Office. Since you are running a Microsoft 365 subscription, you should be able to reinstall from your account at https://www.office.com/myaccount. See also https://support.office.com/en-us/article/download-and-install-or-reinstall-microsoft-365-or-office-2019-on-a-pc-or-mac-4414eaaf-0478-48be-9c42-23adc4716658.
