After a recent reset of windows I can't add my Gmail account to windows 10 Mail app

Hi, 

I have been trying to add my gmail account to mail app but had doing that always getting same error since the windows reset.

the error says:

Something went wrong

We couldn't find your settings.

Error code: 0x80070490

Windows Specification:

Edition: Windows 10 Home Single Language

Version: 1803

OS Build 17134.137

System Type: 64 bit operating system, x64- based processor

Hi Naveen,

What version of windows are you running? Click start, and type “winver” and hit enter, a box should pop up. 1709? 1803?

Any updates pending?

Settings - Privacy - Email, Calendar, People - go ahead and allow apps to access, including mail and calendar.

Once done, reboot and try to add gmail again.

If no dice, we’ll move forward. Let me know!

All those setting were already in same state as you mentioned them to be, but still i turned them off and on again and rebooted the windows but had no luck doing so, I am still getting the same error.

Hmmm when you try to add the account, I’m assuming you’re choosing gmail. Have you tried choosing “other” and adding it manually.

Also, do you have another email account you can try to add. I have suspicions it’s the mail app that’s the problem but that would verify it.

I am able to add outlook account and I don't know how to add it manually.

I have another Gmail account but unfortunately I don't have any other Email account with other providers.

And when I tried adding my other Gmail Account I was able to reach one step further, but again it showed the same error when I add the Name.

I’m going to keep looking for a fix, but it may be due to the 1803 update.

Do you think i should install new windows?

My current windows says - windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account.

So if I'll install another Windows 10 Home Single Language and login with my Microsoft account it will get activated right?

Hey Charlie,


I tried adding my account to other windows 10 laptop with same specs, and i was not able to add my account even on that laptop. 
I wonder what it is because my friend was signed in to his Gmail account on the laptop on which i failed to add mine.

P.S. I again installed windows from Microsoft's website.

Hi there, sorry for the late reply.

Ok, so you’ve reinstalled windows, and still no dice. I really think it’s a problem with the current build of WIndows 10 (1803)

When you go to add an account, what are you options, can you send me a screenshot? Do you have an “other” option?

Many people have had a hard time loading gmail on win 10 mail in this particular build...
