Windows Pro version 2004 Intel WiFi disabled with Code 48 when enabling Hyper-v or Windows Sandbox

Hi all.

I'm on the latest 2004 version of Windows 10 Pro installed from a fresh download 2 days ago but when I enable Windows Sandbox and / or Hyper-V and restart Windows disables the Intel WiFi and I can see the following in device manager...

The driver for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows. Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver. (Code 48)

If I go back into Windows features, disable Hyper-V or Windows Sandbox and restart my WiFi is back and rock solid as normal?

The WiFi card is a very recent Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 160MHz with the latest Intel 21.110.2.1 driver from 21/07/2020 on.

Any help much appreciated!

Hi, I am Van. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be glad to help you today.

Please do try reinstalling your wifi card driver when sandbox and hyper-v are turned on. I would also recommend taking a look at the link below for additional reference about the error code 48.

Thanks for trying to help.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling different versions of the Intel driver both when Windows Sandbox has been enabled and disabled and also checked delete the driver when uninstalling in case that helped but nothing changes the issue.

Also just to be clear again that the WiFi works 100% ok when I don't try and enable Hyper-V or Windows Sandbox but as soon as I do it's prevented from starting.

Hi AndyGGeek,

I am sorry that none of the steps on the links worked. It seems that the issue is complex than I expected.

It may be best if I release your question to other advisors. Maybe someone else will have a solution for you.

Best regards,
Van

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is William. I'm a Windows technical expert. I'll be happy to help you out today.

Windows Sandbox and Hyper-V both rely on virtualization technologies. As such, the issue you are facing is likely an extension of Windows Core Isolation and Memory Integrity safeguards. If you want to use Sandboxing and/or Hyper-V, then you will need to disable that safeguard since you have not been able to find a supported driver. See here for more details: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/...

Thanks for your help but I already have Memory integrity set to Off already and don't appear to have ever had this turned on?

I did notice a similar issue that some Thinkpad owners are also reporting with version 2004 at https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/ikem6v/lenovo_warns_of_windows_10_2004_crashing_thinkpad/ but my laptop is a different Chinese based brand and there are no such bios options.

Also just to say running systeminfo in CMD prompt shows everything is ok there and Sandbox loads but it's just the WiFi driver being disabled...

Hyper-V Requirements:

VM Monitor Mode Extensions: Yes

Virtualization Enabled In Firmware: Yes

Second Level Address Translation: Yes

Data Execution Prevention Available: Yes

You can try the following:

Open the Device Manager > right-click the wifi adapter > Uninstall device > restart. Windows should add a device driver if one is staged. Then enable Sandbox and see if you have the same issue.

As for the link you sent, sounds like it concerns crashing as the result of enabling virtualization in the BIOS, not specifically your issue with the wifi driver.

I have uninstalled the device and the driver in every conceivable combination both when Sandbox is enabled and when it is not and that has made no difference. I have also used the default Microsoft driver that is installed when the device is removed but nothing prevents the WiFi card being disable when Hyper-v or Sandbox is enabled. I should also mention that I have also been working with Windows since Windows 95 so know my way around most issues but just really stuck with this once hence taking the time to post here which is something I wouldn't normally do.

Given the above, the reason I posted that link was to do with others who seem to have the new AMD 4000 series processors experiencing similar issues with Hyper-v and / or Sandbox like me on Windows version 2004 and are having to turn this off at the BIOS levels to prevent issues which is not a solution and might indicate larger issues that others are yet to experience.

It's a Tongfang based chassis sold around the world as the Mechrevo Code 01 but also as the Hansung TFX5470H, Schenker VIA 15 Pro, Tuxedo Pulse 15, KDE Slimbook, Eluktronics Thinn 15 and PC Specialist Fusion IV Pro IV here in the UK.

The key issue seems to be the AMD 4000 series processors these and others are using with these on Windows Pro 2004 version such as the HP Omen that have Realtek cards as well. My CPU is the AMD 4800H.

Thanks

Not sure what to tell you. You can see if you have the same issue using an earlier anniversary build like 1909. You wont be able to get earlier releases from Microsoft, though, so use Rufus: https://pureinfotech.com/download-windows-10-19...
