Help required - Windows 10 Store Error Code 0x80070057

Hi

I am experiencing the above error when attempting to update apps via the Windows Store. All apps fail to update and return the following error. I have read other support articles mentioning permissions, so following the previous advice mentioned, I changed the permissions to the WindowsApps directory to allow full control for my own (administrator) account. Still no luck. My guess is I possibly am experiencing this issue due to a change in my Windows 10 licence key. Over the phone (I purchased level 2 support), a Microsoft employee performed via remote login an upgrade over my existing Windows 10 install due to activation issues I was experiencing. Previously, all updates and installs via the Windows Store worked fine.

I am hoping I can find a solution that does not involve a clean install, as I have already done way too many of them recently, after upgrading from Windows 7.

Can anyone help?

Hi Evaan,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I see that you receive the error code: 0x80070057, and are unable to update apps from Windows Store.

You might be facing the issue if the Store Cache is not cleared, UAC control is disabled, and if there is any proxy connection set.

Follow the steps below and check if that helps.

Method 1: I would suggest you to Run app troubleshooter and check.

Refer this link:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/4/F24D0C03-4181-4E5B-A23B-5C3A6B5974E3/apps.diagcab

This tool can automatically identify and fix some issues with apps and Windows store.

Also refer to the below link.

Why can't I find or install an app from the Windows Store?
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/why-find-install-app-windows-store

Method 2: Please disable proxy, if you are using proxy connection.
a. Click the Gearbox at the top right corner in internet explorer.
b. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
c. Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings.
d. Uncheck the box next to “proxy server for your LAN”.
e. Click OK to save and close the window.

Method 3: Make sure that “Allow apps to use my location” option is enabled. Follow these steps to enable it.
a. Press the “Windows + W”.
b. Then type “Allow apps to use my location” without quotes in the search box and hit ENTER.
c. Turn on “Allow apps to use my location”.
d. Then turn on “Let apps use my location” option.

Hope the information helps. Please let us know if the issue persist and we will be happy to assist you further.

Hi Nachappa

Thanks for your quick response.

I have already tried running the troubleshooter, which returned no results. Additionally as some other users reported a fix, I tried clearing the cache using the WSreset.exe command. No luck with that either.

I am not using a proxy, and have checked that allow location is enabled (it already was).

Still no solution.

Hi

I have tried all the above suggestions, and still no luck.

Additionally, I noticed (not sure if this issue existed before when posting) that the Windows Update appears to be hanging at 49% completion on several updates for a few days now. I am unsure if this is related, or a separate issue.

It is looking increasingly like I will have to do a clean install again...

This response is almost the exact same as the one above it and has nothing to do with the issue or zero apps would install. This is a specific issue. Why am I given error codes if they do nothing for me? I still have to explain the error and troubleshoot all these basic user things when shouldn't the error code be exactly and all I needed? Here's the error code, why can't someone tell me what that means?

I too experienced this problem when trying to play the first movie purchased via the Movies & TV app on a fully updated Windows 10 Pro.  I appealed to PayPal to reverse the charge, because the support links in the Movies & TV app are broken.

This is a pretty fresh install of Windows 10 Pro, with hardly any additional software on it.  I have recently installed huge updates from Windows Update.  (Btw, the same movie was available in Amazon for 99 cents instead of 6 bucks.)

I tried running the Windows Store troubleshooter from the link above, and it "may have" detected a problem.  It is not certain whether or not it detected a problem, but it is certain that it didn't fix it:
