Windows 10 - 1703 forced upgraded to 1709 and got corrupted during the process.

Attempt DISM /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Event log returns:
0 of 767 instances of system store corruption have been repaired. Unrepaired corruptions may lead to failures in future system servicing.

Attempt in-pace upgrade, it failed due to component store corruption.

Originally running Windows 10 1703 which has yet reaching EOL, but Microsoft installed Windows Update Assistance without my permission and trigger this stupid dialog that force upgrade to 1709 during office hours.

Microsoft is not respecting the delayed feature update.

Causing my PC to be corrupted.

Wasting my precious time.

If Microsoft really like Agile way of Project Management, please create a branch like Windows 10 Pro Agile where you can keep upgrading Windows once every 6 months. Not everybody like to upgrade their PC every 6 months. Also your patch breaks .

I can't even proceed to get my job done. How Microsoft is going to compensate for the lost?

One of the possible reasons why you you're getting that error message is due to a corrupted update files. To resolve your issue, we suggest that you perform a System Restore on this support link. Restore points are generated when you install a new app, driver, or Windows update, and when you create a restore point manually. Restoring won’t affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made.

Tried all approach including DISM, System restore, reset windows update , attempted in-place Windows 10 upgrade, all fail

Microsoft have broken my PC.

I demand for compensation from Microsoft for wasting my time working on a broken PC.

All my bundled software license will be gone after a clean reformat, will Microsoft ever refund?

Thanks for the constructive resolution.

With reference to the flow chart, during the down level phase, the setup didn't manage to retrieve the optional component store setting.

Running DISM /ONLINE /GET-FEATURES return error 0x800f0805.

The PC now is functional for normal user, if you need to add optional feature it will show blank list using GUI and DISM throw 0x800f0805.

Down at registry level the "packages" subkey is empty. Reference to a new installed 1709 on VM, it could be that the upgrade process fail to migrate the optional feature and results in broken Feature list.

Microsoft should enable LTSB for consumer as an optin feature.

Microsoft is causing productivity impact with their force upgrades that breaks.

If i have a choice, i would use Windows 7 or Window 8.1, due to my CPU is running Intel Kaby Lake restrictions, Microsoft is causing so much problem.

It looks like that is being deprecated.  See if you can find what you need in Settings Manage Optional Features

explorer.exe ms-settings:optionalfeatures

For example, instead of having Internet Explorer 11 in Windows Features by default, now we will have to refer users there instead (or as well.)

With reference to the flow chart, during the down level phase, the setup didn't manage to retrieve the optional component store setting.

Running DISM /ONLINE /GET-FEATURES return error 0x800f0805.

It looks like that is being deprecated.  See if you can find what you need in Settings Manage Optional Features

explorer.exe ms-settings:optionalfeatures

For example, instead of having Internet Explorer 11 in Windows Features by default, now we will have to refer users there instead (or as well.)

If you need to enable IIS, you still have to access via control panel.

The Dialog at the left is the corrupted Windows 10 1709, the right side is the clean installed Windows 10 1709.

As long as there is a solution to solve this problem, I can do an in-place upgrade to fix most of the corruption.
