Remote Desktop Connection does not leave programs running when signing off ?

Hi,

I remote desktop to a machine in another room locally and normally start Bittorent before closing remote desktop and leaving the machine downloading overnight. This used to work PERFECTLY. However now I see that when closing remote desktop connection the other pc just signs out completely closing all programs that are running !?

Why has this problem started ??

Thanks

Are you logging out or just closing the RDP session window.

Logging out will shut down any application running on the virtual desktop, closing the window via the X symbol should leave the desktop session active so allowing the programs to continue to run.

I tried both clicking the "X" button on the remote desktop connection tab at the top as well as disconnecting via right clicking the start menu.

"X" symbol - I only disconnect, I don't logout...

If you disconnect with an application running and then reconnect immediately is there any error message on the screen?

Check the event logs once reconnected to see if there is any error report as to why the applications terminated. A Terminal Services (Windows Server) RDP host did have Terminate Applications on disconnect as an option but such detail is not offered in desktop hosts.

Hi, Very weird problem - I suspect that Microsoft broke it with their latest updates.

So I started a program via the 2nd PC and left it running. I then connected to it with Remote Desktop. I got the welcome loading screen then immediately after it just said "signing out" and Remote Desktop closed.

I then tried Remote desktop again and it signed into the computer (with no programs open). I opened a program and left it running, then disconnected. I opened Remote Desktop again & I get no error but once again everything has closed as the 2nd PC logs in from scratch.

Really annoying...Is Microsoft fixing this problem ?

EDIT: The programs are terminating because the 2nd PC logs out when disconnecting.

Thanks

Hi, So is there any fix for this ?

I also see that the 2nd PC automatically signs out after a while causing Remote Desktop to disconnect.

These problems never used to exist before and the only change that has been made is installing updates....
