No main menu. No loading screens. Just gets kicked to the dashboard.

So I've had Red Dead Redemption around the same week it was released for Xbox 360. It's never done what I'm about to describe until a couple of days ago...

When I put the disc in the tray, the game starts running. It shows the legal mumbo jumbo (fine print) before the Rockstar logo appears. Then the screen goes black for a split second and goes back to the dashboard. I tried installing it to my hard drive and running it that way, but it does the exact same thing. I then tried playing L.A. Noire and that game just shows a black screen. I can hit the Xbox button and go back to the dashboard. I can play Black Ops, Halo 3, etc just fine. It seems to be just Rockstar games I am having trouble with. I'm not sure if it was a patch they released or it's something on their end. I tried clearing my system cache and this didn't work. This is extremely frustrating! Anyone having the same problem?

Note: This is not a modded console.

That is really strange dude. When you cleared your cache, did you get prompted to download the updates when you tried to play the game again?? or does it boot you to dash before you get there?

Also, do you store your gamertag on a memory card? (As your gamertag grows with your gamerscore, and if you max out the memory then it can do some weird things in game)

After I cleared my cache and I ran the game again, it prompts to download the update and it downloads just fine but it still does what I described. I have my gamertag stored on my 250 GB hard drive.

Does the same issue persist if you try them with no HDD attached to your console? Also, can you try those discs on a friend's console, to see if the same issue occurs?

I've tried it with no HDD and on another console....same results. Same thing with L.A. Noire. Tried Black Ops and it works fine.

So both discs are having the same issue on another console? It sounds like the discs themselves either need to be cleaned or replaced, then. Just to be sure, can you try a friend's copy of either game on your console?

I just bought Red Dead Redemption on Games on Demand hoping playing it strictly from the HDD but it does the same thing. I had to download the update and it still kicks back to the dashboard. So it's not my discs. I thought originally it was the update to RDR but that couldn't be if L.A. Noire just goes to a black screen. I'm at a loss for what the problem is now. I've tried backing up my hard drive and formatting the Xbox HDD but it still happens.

Just bought the game from Amazon. Fired it up, got the legal stuff, the two Rockstar spinning logos, then just black. Disc looks fine. This blows. Tried deleting the Undead Nightmare Collection, no help.

So it's not just me....The only difference is I don't even get to the Rockstar spinning logo.

Dryker, can you try the disc on a friend's console to see if the same issue occurs? Metal Fan, can you try recovering your profile to a friend's console, then try downloading the game there, from your DL history?
