360 games playable on PC rumors

What do you think of that ?
You see that big "Rumor" tag in the headline. Good; keep that in mind as you read this story, because this one could be too good to be true. A persistent batch of rumors from the tech world suggest that Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 operating system will allow users to play Xbox 360 games on their computers.

Teknylate reports from an unrevealed source that if you have Windows 8 installed on your PC, you'll be able to pop Xbox 360 discs directly into your computer tower and load them up as though it were a console. Supposedly gamers will also be able to access their Xbox 360 dashboard and Xbox Live services on PC.

The rumor suggests that players will need to pay a fee to unlock this feature on Windows 8, although its unclear if this just means subscribing to Xbox Live Gold or paying on top of that subscription. It's important to remember that this is all rumor and speculation at this point, but various similar rumors have been circulating for several months now.

Microsoft has yet to announce an official release date for Windows 8, but the company is expected to continue unveiling features for the operating system in the next few months. Hopefully that means we'll know one way or another whether this rumor is legitimate soon.
I'd much rather have PC games that I can play on my 360.    I have about 6-8 PC games that I'd LOVE to play on my big screen TV.

It'd never happen. A PC would not be able to play 360 games natively because of the huge differences in hardware that is available and the PC wouldn't have the power to emulate the 360.

I don't know how technically feasible this would be. I mean, 360 games are programed with very specific chipsets in mind. With PCs, the devs have to start worrying about their software running with different graphic processors and a ton of other variables that are all constant from one 360 to the next. Sure some things have changed in the 360 over the years, but it is a very limited amount of changes, that can be worked with easily. That's a big difference to each component beaing able to be literally anything. They may be able to do it, but I wouldn't count on the games running properly all the time or on all machines.

Besides, why would any of us need our PCs to play 360 games, since I'm guessing we all have at least one 360.

I think it would require a minimum of hardware to achieve. Baring in mind that the majority of Xbox 360 games aren't natively 1080p, yet PC can run versions of the same games at 1080p natively kind of says it can handle the games themselves it's just more about the coding. At the end of the day both systems still have the same core components, it's all about how Windows 8 would be designed to allow the PC to take advantage of those components to run the Xbox 360 games. Nothing is impossible and the hardware for PC gaming is getting simply way out of any current consoles league so I don't think hardware is an issue. I do think it's kind of pointless however. I'd rather get a version made specifically for PC and take advantage of proper PC features, like DX11, native resolutions, mods, high resolution texture packs, dedicated servers, etc. It would also put themselves out of the market because no one in their right mind with a good PC would ever buy a console for an exclusive. Kind of shooting themselves in the foot hardware wise.
Not sure what you find curious.

Natively means it would be running on the PCs own hardware. This wouldn't happen because of the wide variety of hardware in use, whereas 360 games expect a standard set of calls.

Emulating means a piece of software which thinks it is a 360. So not only would you be running Windows 8 but a program to emulate the hardware of a 360, which in turn would have to run the 360's operating system.

Currently there aren't any decent emulators for the last gen of consoles, hell even Playstation 1 emulation isn't perfect, so you've no chance of emulating the Xbox 360.

That doesn't mean it is impossible because a proper one hasn't been built.
What if Windows 8 includes the Xbox 360 operating system? What if the software isn't emulating but is actually designed to run the games with a minimum set of required hardware? I think while this is rumour and speculation there is a possibility depending on how Windows 8 is designed to incorporate it. Lastly there are decent emulators for last gen, hell even a decent emulator for this gen, not great mind, but decent.
