Updated my old Xbox - Unable to read disc

For awhile i have been playing with a newer Xbox (the one that came with Banjo and viva pinata). I was going to give my old xbox to a friend but when I updated it and tried to see if it still works, it is unable to read most of my games. My old xbox i think is from 2006, it was bundled with GRAW and the arcade games. Is there a problem with the new firmware on my old xbox? or is something wrong with my xbox? Also is their a fix? and if i have to send it in, how much will it cost?

What happens when you try and play a game on the console? And has the console ever been modified or tampered with in any way?

When i put in some games, it will show up saying that their is no disc in and continues to say open tray, others load for about 5-10 sec then says unable to read disc and return to dashboard. The console has not been tampered or modified in anyway, it was just not used because i had received a new console. I also tried the steps in the troubleshooting guide but still not working. Arcade games that are on my hard drive work though.

I'm having the same issue and was browsing the forums for a solution. Mine's an older model as well, but I'm trying to play a newer game, and even after cleaning the disc as suggested I'm still getting freezes and messages stating the disc is unreadable. I have not modified or tampered with the system, but it is an older model. A newly purchased copy of Mortal Kombat 9 froze the Xbox at least three times and received the unreadable error message at least twice. It also occurred with a copy of Ninja Gaiden II, which is know is older, and my copy of Dead Rising.

If your console is not reading discs, please try this guide. If you're experiencing freezes, you'll want to try this guide here.

In either case, if the steps listed don't resolve your issue, you can give phone support a call at 800-4MY-XBOX. Alternatively, you can check your warranty status and set up a repair here.

my xbox was just recently updated and it stopped playing some games like, mw2, gow2 and assassins creed brotherhood it seems the only way to play the games is to continuously put them in and out of the xbox but games like halo and black ops still work but not to worry the next system update to come will fix everything im sure of it
