Microsoft Repair Service

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I bought the Halo 3 Limited Edition console in 2007 and have taken great care of it ever since. Its outlasted all my friends consoles by years but a few days ago, five and a half years old, it suddenly gave me No Signal on my tv. I checked the HDMI cable was working by swapping with my blu ray cable and still the same. I tried the Component cable and i got sound but no picture. Ive tried the display settings reset thing and the only other answer is that its about to RROD or something and needs a gpu reballing. Im loathe to spend the £60 on repair this close to next gen but i cant just pack it away and i would rather have this console fixed (as its LE) than pick up a second hand one which might just get the same issue a few months down the line. My question is how good a repair job does Microsoft do? Do they do the bare minimum or a full cleaning, new processors/chips, reballing etc?

There is no certainty that you will get the same console back. Most times they just take yours and give you another that has been repaired/refurbished. Atleast that is the word on the repair grapevine.

I would contact Tech Support via phone and see what they actually do since yours is a LE console.

Ive emailed another company that reball cheaper and they say they return the exact console people send them so i might just go to them instead. Now i just need to be sure that the problem im having really is something that can only be fixed by a reball or if its a problem with my tv or something.

The only authorized repair center for the Xbox 360 console is Microsoft themselves. The use of any other dealer will leave your console open to enforcement action in the form of a permanent ban. Just an FYI. The choice is yours of course.

Just to add my experience with the Microsoft repair centre, my console has been fixed twice, and both times I got my own console back, and they replaced the motherboard and dvd drive (so basically everything)

Most of the time they'll give you the same Console back.

There are people, even if they say you need to Back-Up your Files, they forget to do it.

And some files can't be transferred/backed-up. So, if I send my Console to the Service Center and I get another one back without my files on it, I'm not a statified customer anymore. The files that are stored on my Xbox, are MY files and not them. Of course, when nessacery, they can format the HDD, but I quess they tranfer them to a new HDD and give the new one.

If your Xbox can't be repaired anymore, because it's critical damaged or it just passed his age limit, I can live with that you need a new Console.

Pull your hard drive and send the console without it, No info loss.

When anyone sets up a repair order with MS they are instructed to remove the faceplate and the hard drive as neither are required for service. They also tell us not to send any of the cables with it.
