Lost Everything

Hi, So i'm not much a of a tech whizz, but last night I downloaded Fight Night Champion, played for roughly 15 minutes, exited the game and shut down my console as usual. The console wasn't moved before or after gaming. Yet when I got back from work tonight ( I live on my own so no one else has access) and started the console it asked me to do a system update, when I tried it said i didn't have enough storage. As you would expect I was a little shocked as I've only really downloaded 3 or 4 full games (I have the 280gb hard drive... or should i say had) the rest are demo's and DLCs etc. Anyways what i'm gathering is the console can't find the hardrive or the HDD has failed somehow and so my profile along with all my downloaded content and DLC i've bought for forza MS4 and Forza Horizons has all disappeared. 1st question, why has the hardrive suddenly failed? 2 How do I get all of my content back if it does get fixed. 3. why should I pay microsoft to fix it when it broke through no fault of my own? 4. why wasn't there any error codes etc when the xbox booted up?

As i say i'm not techy so i've never dabbled in adding extra storage etc in fact i've never even opened the xbox hardrive side thing. If someone can let me know how to fix this issue that would be great & i'm really hoping it's just a case of getting a replacement hardrive and redownloading my stuff. If it helps my profile was Everywhere86. Oh and I assume that while this is broken I'll still be charged for xbox live gold lol!

Look forward to hearing from someone who knows what their talking about coz this kinda thing makes me panic. Especially when you've just spent £20 on a game along with plenty of money on DLC content lol.

I will answer the question 2 by now.

Answer : You can download content from your Download History (support.xbox.com/.../download-content-history)

Hi, firstly I'm sorry your having this issue.

-

You could try removing and refitting the hard drive, the following link will assist you to do that.

-

support.xbox.com/.../add-remove-hard-drive

-

If the hard drive has indeed failed and was supplied with the console and the console is still within the warranty period then the hard drive should also be covered for breakdowns. In this case you can arrange a repair online or contact xbox support for further assistance.

myservice.xbox.com/.../Welcome.aspx    Arrange a repair

support.xbox.com/contact-us  Contact support

-

Any downloaded content can be downloaded again for free using the account that purchased it, go to settings /account/download history

-

On to your other questions, hard drives can and do just fail, like most mechanical devices they can fail at any time. Why should you pay for Microsoft to fix the problem, as I say if the hard drive was provided fitted in the console when new then any warranty would apply, otherwise you would need to contact the vendor you purchased the hard drive from regarding a replacement, failing that you would need to buy a new hard drive.

-

Is the hard drive not showing at all in settings/system/storage? If it is showing but as unformatted then formatting the drive would be the only option.

-

support.xbox.com/.../storage shows you how to format a storage device.

I just knew I'd forget something.

- Apparently as stated the warranty period for a hard drive even if fitted at the factory is still only 90 days !!! Darn that bites, please excuse my ignorance.

Or is it? One section of the support website says a hard drive is classed as an accessory which carries a 90 day warranty. However I then find this.

-

support.xbox.com/.../warranty-faq

-

What is the warranty period for Xbox 360 consoles and accessories?

The warranties are:

Xbox 360 console: One year

Original Xbox 360 console with three flashing red lights or error E74: Three years from the console purchase date (not applicable to the Xbox 360 S console)

Kinect sensor: One year

Accessories: One year

-

So now which is correct?

hey dude I seem to be having the same problem as you but along with overheating and disc tray jamming. could you tell me how old your Xbox is and when you open up the guide does it say that you have zero accounts? I can not provide any suggestions as I don't know what's happened either but if you could reply it would be much appreciated.

Thank you for all of the answers, it's much appreciated! Unfortunately my xbox is older than one year so i'm well out of warranty. I don't want to fiddle with it at all so I think I'll just send it off to get fixed, it'll cost £50 but if it comes back in full working order then I suppose it's worth it. I may try formatting the HDD but I think i'll get one of my friends to come and supervise haha. I did try to take the HDD out and reconnect it but still having the same issue. Everything else seems to be working fine. Thank you again for the responses :) i'll let you know the outcome!
