I had this same issue, but once I got it to use the 5.1 certain elements of games became inaudible. Specifically, I was playing DR3 and the bikers voices couldn't be made out. I tried Kinect Sports Rivals and the same. The announcer couldn't be heard. Any idea? I have Logitech Z5500 5.1 surrounds. The Xbox is hooked via HDMI into my Samsung LED and it has Optical Out to the speakers. Has worked flawlessly on anything else in the past. TV app seems to sound 100% fine. DirecTV is clear as a bell on all aspects.

Same here, I have a Samsung 40" (brand new) smart TV passing audio via optical into a Sony surround sound system (always worked perfectly with 360/PS3) but as you say, it seems the centre audio track is being swallowed. In Forza, the commentary is ultra quiet , hopefully this issue is on Microsoft's radar and will be fixed in a near future patch. I have been gaming with surround sound for years and without it I really feel I am loosing alot of depth to the whole experience, especially in a game such as Forza where you can hear cars growling either side of you as you pass them, or the sound of your engine refracting off a narrow tunnel wall etc...

I have a Samsung tv and LG surround sound connected via optical cable. Had to go into my receiver and Deselect HDMI audio to get my rear channels to work. (Wasn't necessary for my 360, but seems it is for the XB1)

Voltron, are you now getting full 5.1? my rear speakers are working in 5.1 but seem to only be replicating the front L and R channels, and as I say the center channel aint working properly (if at all?)

The error you are receiving is due to the fact that 5.1 and 7.1 are not supported at this time. It was announced the day before release. It is a programming issue that is to be updated at an unspecified later time. My only hope is that it will be soon.

I was originally only getting L/R channels. (No rear at all). I have the "beta" selection checked under TV/ troubleshooting, selected HDMI (without auto detect) for my sound, and my digital audio boxes say 7.1 uncompressed for HDMI and DTS for optical. Changed my surround sound receiver to Deselect HDMI out. With that I have fully functional surround sound for games (center channel included), where as before I was getting the 0x80bd0009 error. Tested it by standing next to a waterfall in CoD and turning around. I believe the "unsupported" stuff only applies to TV signals. That's all I got.

I'm having the same issue. HDMI to the TV, then audio via SPdif back to the receiver. Funny that it works fine on the 360 but not on the One. Gotta say I'm disappointed since I feel that surround sound is more important than graphics when it comes to really pulling the player into the game play. Any idea when this issue will be dealt with?
