Sending mail from Gmail through hotmail SMTP servers.

I have set up my Gmail account to send mail through hotmail's SMTP servers.

This has been working for about a week without any problem until I received a send message failure.

I went through the "Send mail through your SMTP server" settings again for my hotmail account and now receive the following error:

Authentication failed. Please check your username/password.  [Server response: 535 5.2.1 Login to your account via a web browser to verify your account. code(535) ].

I have logged into Hotmail via a web browser but there is nothing there asking me to verify my account.

Any suggestions please?

Hi.

I don't understand your first question, can you re-phrase please?

About your second question, yes, we've configured our gmail account to send and receive from other account.  The problem is when trying to use hotmail SMTP server to send mail within gmail.  After entering our hotmail credentials in gmail's website, we get the error described in the original post.

Think the problem here is very clear, but feel free to ask for any additional input.

I am having the same problem here. I could never connect my hotmail to the gmail account. It keeps telling me
 Authentication failed. Please check your username/password.

I know my password is correct and have tried many times.

Incidentally, I did find a post on the Google forums mentioning this specific problem. The Google rep suggested that the issue was down to the hotmail server response and therefore the question needed to be directed to hotmail.

Same problem here. I logged from web browser, changed the password, I tried to remove everything and I configured it again, nothing changes, hotmail refuses gmail to connect.

I have set up my Gmail account to send mail through hotmail's SMTP servers.
May I ask why?  Also, how did you do this?  There's nothing I can see within a gmail account that allows you to send to an SMTP server.

From within Gmail, go to Settings/Account/Add another e-mail address you own.

Many people are having this problem, even from other desktop/mobile email clients.
