XP pro system restore, system info page are blank, SR shuts down quickly with message:
System Restore Application has encountered a problem and needs to close.
Always get message: Explorer needs to close, taskbar disappears and cannot be brought back. I Have to use the task manager to use the computer.
Dell 740 Optiplex ssf-desktop, AMD-dual-core-3800+, integrated nvidia-graphics card, no pci cards installed. 2-usb-external-hds.
Tried alot of article-fixes, no change.
Most programs installed on the PC work but can be slow, hesitant, freeze-up, need to close, crash.
A few prorams do the same as SR. Shut down every time they are opened with that same message. Amazon search project shows this same type of message every 30 minutes. Not sure what that program is.
Even with 3.5 gb ram browsers and folders perform well at 1st, but with 2 or more browsers open they get slow, freeze up after a short while, crash, when too many tabs are opened.
Running MS Sec Essntials and Webroot-Spy-Sweeper-only. I ran Malware Bytes, it didn't fix the main problems listed here.
Ran sfc /scannow 3x, chkdsk 1x, turned off desktop icons. PC runs better faster, but didn't bring back SR, Sys-Info. All messages keep showing up, Exploer needs to close, task bar disappers.
Should folders, files be ready for archiving checked on or off ?
Recently a pop-up asked me to download Java update, I did it.
In case I can't fix this I have the reinstallation CD Svc-Pk-3. Should I do it as an,
XP-upgrade, new installation, re-installation, repair, go to the recovery console ?
I backed up everything to an external-hd.
BIOS 1118 is from 2007, should I install the newer 2227 from 2012. Install new BIOS before or after reinstallation ?
Is it ok to run MSE and Webroot-Spy-Sweeper-only together ?

This issue may cause due to third-party application conflict or any recent software/hardware changes on the computer.
Before reinstalling Windows XP, I would suggest you to check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode. Also try performing system restore in safe mode.

It is a possibility that there is a startup program that is started with a command line and it shows up.
Step 2:
You are required to perform a Clean Boot to find the program that is causing this and then disable or remove it.

Note: Make sure you reset the computer to normal mode after the troubleshooting completes. Refer the section “Steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state”
Step 3:
Perform system restore it takes the computer back to the point when the problem didn’t exist. See if you can find a suitable restore point where the problem hadn’t shown up.

Step 4:
Try booting into Last Known Good Configuration and see if you can boot fine.

Important: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost
Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.
