regedit command not working in windows xp sp3 despite changing group policy, there is a message that windows can not find 'regedit', if some one can help me 

Hi,

 

1. Is the issue confined with a particular file?
2. Are you able to start regedit from C:\Windows\regedit ?
3. What group policy setting are you referring to?
 
 
Refer the following steps:
Step 1:
Let us first run the SFC scan and check if there are any system file corruptions.
1. Put the Windows XP CD to the CD-ROM.
2. Click "Exit" if the auto-menu pops up.
3. Click "Start", and click "Run".
4. Type "SFC /Scannow" (without quotation marks) in the "Open" box, and click "OK".
Note: There is a space between "SFC" and "/Scannow".
The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

When you run an .exe file on a Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7-based computer, the file may start a different program
 
 
Step 3:
Virus are known to cause these issues. Scan your computer from Microsoft Safety Scanner, which helps to get rid of virus, spyware, and malicious software.
Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner expires after 10 days from the date of installation.
Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

scan now has also not worked and regedit is still not working. problem is with regedit, group policy is set at not configured and file doesnot open even directly from window folder.
