Hi,
I have a Dell XPS M1330 Laptop with Microsoft Windows Vista Business 32-Bit Operating System.
Windows Update will not work.
It says "Checking For Updates" and will not go farther.
Dell said to just re-install Vista, which I did, twice, from Recovery Drive D, and I ran Standalone SP1 and SP2 to get as far along as I could, knowing that there are numerous additional Updates needed since SP2.
I have tried System File Checker, the Intel Matrix Storage Hard Drive Software R200174.exe, version A04, which is the Rapid Storage Technology.
Windows Repair BITS Service Repair Tool says the BITS Service does not need repairing.
The Windows FixIt will not run, it gets hung at installing tool updates
The Windows Update Standalone Installer gets hung at checking for updates.
I went through the Microsoft manual Fix It Myself Steps using the Command Prompt - Run As Administrator, and the following failed :
Not Valid Names were:
appidsvc.dll
mshtml.dll
shdocvw.dll
browseui.dll
The Entry Point for the Dll Register Service was not found.
The following were not found and failed to load:
msxml.dll
gpkcsp.dll
sccbase.dll
slbcsp.dll
initpki.dll
wuaueng1.dll
wucltui.dll
wuweb.dll
qmgr.dll
muweb.dll
The others in the steps all seemed to load, but, it did nothing to make Windows Update begin to work properly.
I have read many of the comments and suggestions, and nothing has changed anything.
Now, I am asking for your help.
I believe updating to Windows 7 would not be a good idea on this laptop, per the Windows 7 Upgrade Adviser, though I really like Windows 7, and I liked Vista O.K. until this Windows Update Issue cropped up.
I appreciate Your Help.
Sincerely,
Dave
