Can I delete Windows "temp" files?

In c:\windows/temp there are files totalling over 1.5 gigabytes.   Is it safe to delete some or all of these files as they are only "temp" files?
Answer
Answer

Click the start button and type in the explorer box, disk cleanup, and hit the enter key.

It will evaluate your disk and give you a list of folders sizes that can be deleted, there is also a system cleanup button to evaluate unneeded system files.
