Upgrading Options from Windows 8 Single Language to Windows 8 Pro

I am using a 5 year old laptop which I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro 32-bit in Oct 2012 when Windows 8 was launched. I have the Product Key with me. But now the laptop is proving to be too old and often runs into problems due to old hardware and I wish to buy a new system.

I am interested in the SONY VAIO Tap 20 All-in-One Desktop which comes with Windows 8 Single Language Build 9200 preinstalled. Before buying the new system, I want to clarify few things and I would be thankful if someone can help me here.

1. What are the differences between W8 SL and W8 Pro, apart from the fact that I can't install another language in W8 SL? Can I install Microsoft Indic Language Input Tool for typing in Indian languages in the Single Language version?

2. What are my options if I want to upgrade the W8 SL to W8 Pro?

3. Can I use the W8 Pro Product Key which I purchased online while upgrading my earlier laptop (which is junk anyway), for upgrading the new All-in-One? Please keep in mind that the older laptop has a 32-bit OS while the new AIO will need a 64-bit OS.

Thanks.

Can I install Microsoft Indic Language Input Tool for typing in Indian languages in the Single Language version?

No it seems, you would need to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro

2. What are my options if I want to upgrade the W8 SL to W8 Pro?

If you plan to retire your current system where Windows 8 Pro is currently installed, you can use that product key and upgrade Windows 8 Single Language to Professional.

Press Windows key + X

Click System

Under Windows Edition, click the link:

Get more features with a new edition of Windows

Click the 'I already have a product key link'

Enter your product key and you will be upgraded to Pro.

3. Can I use the W8 Pro Product Key which I purchased online while upgrading my earlier laptop (which is junk anyway), for upgrading the new All-in-One?

Yes, see the answer above, you will need to reactivate by telephone.

Please keep in mind that the older laptop has a 32-bit OS while the new AIO will need a 64-bit OS.

Doesn't matter, product key works with either 32 or 64 bit.

Phone activation;

1. Press Windows key + X then click Run, then type: slui.exe 4

2. Next press the 'ENTER' key

3. Select your 'Country' from the list.

4. Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.

5. Stay on the phone (do not select/press any options) and wait for a person to help you with activation.

6. Explain your problem clearly to the support person.

Thanks.
