I can not update anything. It seems like windows update just runs & runs the I get this error code: code 800704C8. How do I fix this?
What 'exactly' are you doing when the error occurs?
If you are trying to install a Windows Update, what is the 'KBxxxxxx' number for the update.
You may try to run the Windows 7 Update Troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Suggest that you first rule out malware as the cause of the issue by doing the following:
I.- Clear out your Temporary files
Clean up the system (clearing out all the temp/tmp folders, and included all offline content, clearing the browser tif, delete cookies.
Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
Disk Cleanup
II.- Have your system scanned by the installed antivirus/security suite.
III.- Run this tool from Kaspersky: How to remove malware belonging to the family Rootkit.Win32.TDSS
It seems possible that your Windows installation has been delibeяately damaged by a trojan. (SDBot and ZLOB, all protected by a rootkit.)) so as to prevent you updating your system or removing the trojan.
Mosty likely, the computer may be infected with ROOTKITS.

IV.- Download, install, update, and run scans with both of these free anti-malware tools:
MalwareBytes AntiMalware (MBAM)
SUPERAntiSpyware (SAS)
V.- If no malware was detected, there is a Fixit on this page that will reset W indows Update components:
Access the KB971058 article via Internet Explorer-(only)
How do I reset Windows Update components <<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058>>
Suggest you download and save it. Then close all open programs and web browsers.
Run Microsoft Fixit 50202.msi and choose it's Default mode.
After it's finished running, see if the return code appears again when you check for updates.
If not, then run the Fixit once more and choose it's Aggressive mode.
Restart once it's finished running and see if the return code still appears when checking for updates.
IF malware was detected, then please post if it was removed and
the specific name of what was detected.
Please let us know if this did or didn't help to resolve your problem.
