1.       When exactly do you receive this error message?

2.       What is the free space on your computer hard drive?

Before performing any troubleshooting steps, I would suggest you to restart the computer couple of times and check if it helps.

This issue occurs because there is insufficient memory to display the folder. This may be caused by any one of many reasons. This issue may cause due to third-party conflict or virus infection. Check if the issue persists in Safe Mode, if the issue does not persist in safe mode then perform Clean Boot and check whether the issue resolves.

Note: After Clean Boot troubleshooting step, refer to “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with Clean Boot” from the article.

Also try running virus scan using Microsoft Safety Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

Try this diagnostic steps and let us know the status of the issue.

The message is basically indicating that there is not enough physical memory. Check in the BIOS as to how much memory is detected and does that match what should be installed.

Less likely is insufficient space on the disk, difficult to check in the current state but is it possible to remember if the disk was getting full?

Carolyn, the 'message' says it all.

You have NO MORE hard-drive you can use.

The Operating System (OS) is asking you to REMOVE programs.......so that it can WORK.

The ONLY way it can work is...............IF you go buy a LARGER hard-drive, for your lap-top.

Get a computer-store 'techie' to INSTALL it, then, get the OS reloaded!

Like too many people, you think that a computer can filled up with WHATEVER you want to put into it!

There is ONLY a DEFINITE amount of storage space on a hard-drive (the capacity od it!), you can NOT go beyond that.

You did, and, now, your computer is telling you that too.

I can't help you any further, and, nobody else will help you either.

SHE HAS NO DISK SPACE so how can she install any more programs. She can't open Computer, Pictures or anything. Please be a little logical with the advice.

Carolyn, once the disk has got to the state where nothing can work about the only option is to remove the disk and connect it to another PC to examine the contents. I suspect the installation of Office has taken it to the limit and now it has just run out.

You are presumably posting this on another computer so if you have the confidence to do so you can remove the drive from the problem one and connect it to a USB adapter and read the disk on another. If not your local computer shop may be able to do the removal for you, I have done this a few times and loaned the customer the adapter to let them take it home. Even if the disk is not completely full you can at least use the second computer to do a virus scan.

Then you can copy off photos, documents etc. onto something else (Disk, DVD, USB storage, the second computers drive) and delete the files to make some space. Then it can be reinstalled into the laptop and carry out further housekeeping from there.

Alternatively fit and load a new larger disk and permanently mount the old one into a USB carrier, pull off the files you need to keep and use the old disk as a backup device. This would require you to have the recovery media.
