WAIK-Difference of x86, amd64 and ia64?

I installed Windows Automated Installation Kit and got three directories named x86, IA64 and AMD64. I expected to see x64. I know that IA64 is itanium and I dont have that. I do have Win7 pro/64 on AMD Opteron and also Win7 HP/64 on Intel core two quad and Vista-64 on AMD Opteron. I plan on putting the proper WAIK (win7 or vista) on all three systems.

There is a single example of building WIN-PE using the command prompt of WAIK as follows:

copype x86 c:\winpe_x86

Can I assume the x86 example is good for all three of these systems? On my vista and win7 that are running on an amd opteron, should I substitute amd64 for x86?

I am doing this so that if I ever replace a motherboard again, I will not have to install win7 or vista from scratch. After the WIN-PE is built I will be using acronis plus pack tools to build the ISO image.

AMD64 targets x86-x64 processors developed by both Intel and AMD. When AMD introduced the x86-x64 instruction set, Intel scrambled and had to borrow code from AMDs instruction set to make their Intel processors 64 bit aware like AMDs, they ended up branding their processors as Intel EM64T to differentiate from AMD, but it was actually the same code.

x86 targets standard 32 bit processors from both Intel and AMD, along with ability to run on both AMD64 and Intel64 processors.

Thanks Andre for the prompt reply, but the answer is not clear. I know that IA64 is itanium and my cpu's are not itanium so that leaves x86 and amd64 as the only possibilities for building an installation image.

So I can draw the following conclusion from what you wrote:

If building an install for a 32 bit system (amd or intel) I should use

copype x86 c:\winpe_x86

and if building for a 64 bit system, either amd or intel I should use

copype amd64 c:\winpe_x64

I added the "_x64" just to signify the install will work on either amd opteron or intel core 2 quad systems.

Is that correct?

I am also posting this over at the acronis forum since it is their product that required me to install WAIK and they do not explain how to use WAIK.
