Upgraded Win 7 Pro VL to Win 7 Pro Retail validation error Not a valid key.

Had installed Win 7 Pro VL for a project but never activated it and it is beyond the grace period. I did an upgrade to Win 7 Pro Retail but the activation still thinks the system is still VL. Here's the MGA info. This copy of Windows is not genuine. When I try to activate with the retail key I get a key not valid after typing the third letter of the second block of the key. What is the problem and can it be resolved without a total fresh install?

the product key in use is the default key windows uses when no key is entered during install and can not be activated.

I get a key not valid after typing the third letter of the second block of the key

try a bright light and a good magnifier.

characters not used:

E,U,I,O,A,S,L,Z,N, and 1,0

easily confused: B and 8, G and 6, G and C

it also looks like the WAT update kb971033 is not installed properly. I suggest you uninstall and reinstall it.
