An unspecified error occured during system restore 0x800700b7

Hi,

Am facing some startup problem with my Dell Studio laptop, When Start it is showing the message

"Windows is Preparing to Configure Don't Turn Off Your System" and this message am getting continuously with some auto restarts in middle.

When i choose system restore option, finally am getting the following error

"An unspecified error occured during system restore  0x800700b7"

Please help me if there is any solution, currently i dont have OS CD with me.

Some security programs prevent changes to their files and have to be configured to allow System Restore to work.  For example, if your computer has Norton Antivirus or Norton Internet Security, you must turn off Norton Product Tamper Protection before running System Restore.

Hi,

·        How are you trying to do a System Restore, through Windows Recovery console?

·        Are you able to boot into Safe mode?

·        Do you remember making any changes to the system?

If you are able to boot into safe mode then I would suggest you follow method 1.

Method 1:

Follow the steps mentioned below to perform a clean boot.

1.      Click Start, typemsconfig.exe in the Start Search box and then press ENTER to start the System Configuration Utility.

2.      On theGeneral tab, click Selective Startup and then click to clear theLoad startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)

3.      On theServices tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box and then clickDisable all

Note: Following this step lets Microsoft services continue to run. These services include Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, Error Reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you may permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use the System Restore utility together with existing restore points.

After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

1.      Click start, typemsconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then pressENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

2.      On theGeneral tab, click the Normal Startup option, and then click OK.

3.      When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart

Method 2:

I would suggest you to perform a startup repair and check whether you are able to boot into the desktop without any issues. Check the article mentioned below.
