Windows 7 Mouse Acceleration Confusion

I don't know what is different but the way my mouse performs Windows 7 bothers me and I'm thinking it is due to the mouse acceleration curves, thresholds, sensitivity, etc. A similar question regarding disabling mouse acceleration was asked a few weeks ago (link to post ) and the answer or "fix" was to adjust the Mouse Key settings under the Control Panel>>Ease of Access (Accessibility Options in XP)

My question is what do the Mouse Key settings (a feature to control the mouse cursor with directional keys on your keyboard) have to do with the way the actual mouse performs? I thought the mouse performance was controlled solely by the registry settings MouseSensitivity , MouseSpeed , MouseThreshold1 , MouseThreshold2 , SmoothMouseXCurve , and SmoothMouseYCurve. Could someone clear up my confusion??

Thanks,
Jim

Hello Sandsukka,

Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forum!

As you have referred the post which has the similar issue that you can only reduce the acceleration settings from ease of access. However you cannot disable or remove the acceleration.

This might occur due to the corrupt drivers, I would suggest you to update the latest mouse drivers from the device manager and check whether it helps. To do so, please follow the steps mentioned below:

You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

1.    Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then, under System, clicking Device Manager.  If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.‌

2.    In the list of hardware categories, find the device that you want to update, and then double-click the device name.

3.    Click the Driver tab, click Update Driver, and then follow the instructions.  If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

In addition, try to run an online virus scan and check if it helps.
