How to install Quicktime on a PC with Windows 10

Greetings.  I need a little bit of assistance.  I need to download Quicktime for school and everytime I try to install the program, it says that I need to have Windows 7 or Windows Vista installed.  With the research that I have already completed, I've tried to run it in compatibility mode but it did not work, as before installation of Windows 10, my PC had Windows 8 on it and nothing else.  I've tried the troubleshooter a few times and the compatibility tab a few times with each of the choices and none of them seem to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

1. Go to official apple site.

https://secure-appldnld.apple.com/QuickTime/031-17469-20150630-3cf8c404-1a97-11e5-aaac-4e5ebe268ff7/quicktimeinstaller.exe

2. You can unpack it with WinRAR or other decompress tools.

3. You will see 4 files in the "exe" file, it’s actually a package.

Don't install with QuickTime.msi, you'll fail.

4. Install AppleApplicationSupport.msi and AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi. It's better to install AppleApplicationSupport since actually AppleSoftwareUpdate is the key one.

5. Open AppleSoftwareUpdate you just installed. After checking new versions, you may see QuickTime in the list. Install it.

The first answer may be the best, given that it came from an actual support engineer. But: I discovered that an older installer - version 7.7.6 - installs fine. Only ver 7.7.7 and 7.7.8 for some odd reason detects Windows 10 and ends early. I don't know why this is so. But ver 7.7.6 seems to be working fine for me.

Thanks for this link.  It just started downloading Quicktime when I clicked on it.  No engineering needed.  I had to have QT for Tivo desktop software application.  You saved the day after failing several trys.

I agree with the previous statement. Belarc Advisor telling me to update Quicktime to newest version only newest verrsion states needs Windows Vista or Windows 7 to install. I have 7.7.6 installed and that runs perfectly. Versions 7.7.

7 and newer do not like Windows 10

I had Apple iTunes already installed. This post led me to C:/Program Files (x86)/Apple Software Update/SoftwareUpdate.exe which I was able to run and install Quicktime on Windows 10 just fine. Thanks for the pointer!

These steps do NOT work.

When I click on AppleApplicationSupport.msi I get the following messages and the install quits:

"A later version of Apple Application Support is already installed on this computer,"

The installer encountered errors before Apple Application Support could be configured.  Your system has not been modified.  To retry these operation at a later time, please run the installer again.

I also get the message:

QuickTime 7 requires that your computer is running Windows Vista or Windows 7.

How does one install QuickTime on Windows 10 please?

Nevermind.... Neither 7.7 or 7.8 would install on Windows 10.  However, 7.6 does.

The reason you got the newer version message is because the link in the first answer is old. Go to the legit Apple website, download the 7.7.78 installer, and you're done.
