Windows 10 Creator Update fails to install

I have been trying for the last few days to install Windows 10 Creator Update.  Each time it encounters an installation error, tries to fix it, fails, and reinstalls my previous version.  There are no apparent error messages other than a message the flashes and disappears about an installation error.  I tried downloading a second time.  Same thing.  Please help.

I am having the same exact problem.

I have contacted Microsoft tech support many times now, and they have tried many things, including installing from the ISO file.  The install gets to about 75% and restarts.  After restarting, the installation tries to continue, but almost immediately goes to a BSOD with a Stop Code of CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED.

It then goes back to the previous version and gives me a notice that the installation failed:

0xC1900101 - 0x4000D
The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation

The last Microsoft tech support rep I talked to, a level/tier 2 tech person, after trying a number of things, finally told me that the problem was that the current version build I have on my computer is not where it needs to be to do the installation properly.

I currently have Version 1607, Build 14393

She told me that I need to have Version 1607, Build 15503

When I check to see if there are any other updates pending, none show up.

Was this Level/Tier 2 tech support person full of crap or just trying to get get of me because she simply couldn't figure out what the problem was and did not want to admit it?

What is the make and model of the computer?

Have you followed the directions in my previous reply to check the manufacturers website to find out about compatibility?

My computer is home built.  It uses a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP4 TH motherboard, with an Intel i7-3770K CPU.  It has 16GB of high-speed RAM and a 1TB primary SSD (currently with 335GB free).  All drivers for all components are up-to-date.

I have been using Windows 10 on this computer, without ANY problems, since Windows 10 first came out (I was an early adopter).  I have never encountered this error before.

So unless you are implying that the Creator update is some how radical different from all past versions of Windows 10, I see absolutely no reason this computer should not be able to use this update.   The Microsoft tech support reps I have talked to have never even suggested that this computer might not be compatible with the Creator update.

Lenovo  10181 K450e Desktop

I have just checked Lenovo website.  There’s no sign that they have even heard of this upgrade.

Nonetheless, I followed your suggestions and successfully installed the upgrade.

Thank you.

I, too, am having the same problem.  Downloads fine, configures fine, installation process locks up at 75%--no error message at all.  Forced to shut the system down; after restart, resumes installation at 75% and continues to 87%--locks the system up again.  Forced once again to shut the system down--cannot salvage the installation and system restores to previous version (1607).

Hi! Here are some things you can do to prepare for 'Creator'! I see this suggested by Andre, but no comments if any of these were tried!

Here's link from Andre Da Costa! Let me know how things go for you!
