Surface book 2 15 inch 256G super low wirte speed

My surface book 2 (15 inch, i7, 16G, 256G ssd) shows high read speed (~3000 mb/s), but super low write speed (~330 mb/s).  I returned my 1st one due to this super low write speed, but 2nd one also show almost same benchmark speed. Based on other reviews, these numbers are consistently reported in 256G ssd model. I wonder if this write speed is normal or it can be improved by firmware update later. If this write speed is normal...why MS used this ssd?. 300mb/s write speed is much slower than my 2yr old surface pro 4 256G (~1000mb/s) and 3yr old 256G ssd(~800mb/s) in my desktop....

Are there any updates on this?  I'm getting 3200 read and 350 write speeds.  Is this by design or going to be fixed?
Thanks a lot!

I also have a similar issue with the Samsung SSD in my 13" SB2:

Read speed: approx. 1500

Write speed: approx. 650

Not really good enough: can the SSD be changed by the user?

Regards,

Doug

Hi Doug,

Replacing or changing the SSD of Surface Book 2 requires technical experience and specialized tools, and it is done by our technical professionals. To have it checked, we suggest that you visit the store where you purchased your device or the nearest local Microsoft Store. You can also set an appointment here if you are in the United States.

Regards.

I wish we could just get an answer of why the write speeds are so low.  Thats all people are asking for.  Its a common topic.  I get 3000 read and 330 write speeds. Very unusual and never have had such low of write speeds on this kind of drive.

I am now working with a second SB2 with an identical configuration to the first, i.e. it has the Samsung SSD. I am getting the same low read/write speeds as achieved with the first machine: extremely frustrating :-(

From what I have found in my research, it seems that this SSD is simply a poor performer. I understand that MS have at least dual sources for this component and it seems that we have been unlucky & got the short straw, i.e. the Samsung :-(

Erwin, thank you for your reply.

I am located in the UK and purchased the machine from an internet retailer. I don't believe that they have the facility to achieve this.

Do you know of any MS stores in the UK?

Thanks,

Doug

Anyone in this thread willing to share the model of the SSD and is it an M.2 version... What driver (Microsoft or OEM) is being used?  If you do not know, check the Device Manager for the info.
