Hi,

So the skype preview does not work for chromebooks and we have some chromebooks that do not support android apps, so how can we use skype once the current web app is retired?  Is there plans for the new skype web version to support chromebooks?

Whilst following the discussion regarding the new version of skype that seems to be universally unpopular, in particular with not being able to set your own status to what you want, when you want, I was interested to see that you had rolled out skype preview which I had understood allowed you to set your status to away. I downloaded and installed and all seemed good with regard to being able to set my status to away. HOWEVER, since you first rolled it out there have been several updates and now when I set my status to away (ie I am not at my desk, SO AWAY) skype preview for some reason changes my status on its own to AVAILABLE?? If I set my status to anything ie away, available etc I want it to stay that way until I decided to change it. Is that really too much to ask? PLEASE can you rectify this. I have had people thinking I am ignoring them because despite setting my status to away when I am going AWAY from my desk, skype is changing it whilst I am away to available when clearly I am not!

That particular problem is not new. I do not know in your case, but if you have more that 1 device logged in on Skype, that can happen.

I could use preview.web.skype until today, now I get a message, browser does not support. I use chrome 49.

https://preview.web.skype.com/

I use Firefox for everything, so it does not work there.

What is ridiculous is that I get an error:

Browser not supported

Use Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome to access Skype for Web (Preview) experience.

Alternatively, download Skype on your desktop computer.

First, Google is their competition but they suggest it.

Second, it does not work on Internet Explorer either, their OWN browser ...

Third, I does not seem to work on Chrome anymore, according to dawpes above (I did not test this as I refuse to use that Chrome ****.)

Hi, I know it was a problem with skype 8 but did not realise it was with skype preview. Anyhow, it is not fixed. I only use skype on my PC.

Hi - when I click the invitation link, I am brought to a page to either Sign in or Download Skype..? I thought the purpose of this was to avoid both of these.. I have been told to try this on Microsoft Edge and it does not seem to work.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Told by? .... If it was the Skype team, you are out of luck.

The only way to help yourself is to install a Classic version and not update, sadly enough.

They killed Skype and want to keep it dead. Zombie 'developers' create zombie apps, don't look any further for any reasons.

Why have things turned this way for Skype..?

Because they want to enter the anti-social media playing field...

Skype was NEVER intended for that, it was a communication tool for people who actually KNOW each other, but now MS want to push us together, whether we like it or not. It does not work that way.

To get there, they assembled a team of retarded scriptkiddies to puzzle together something like Skype 8 and shoved it down our throats.

They expected us to just swallow, but boy, were they wrong.

Anyway, for any other, look in the Categories on top and select Skype, you will find tons of complaints.

Hi all,

As others have posted, I have a Chromebook and was using the chrome Skype plug in no problem until today. When launching, I get the message: Device not supported. Sorry, Skype for Web (Preview) is not available on this device yet. Give it a try on your desktop computer instead. When I try the web preview link above I get the same message. When I click the "Get Skype for this Device" it takes me to the Google Play store and I get this message, "This Google account is not yet associated with a device. Please access the Play Store app on your device before installing apps."

It has effected all the Chromebooks used in the organization and I can't seem to find a fix on google or any forums. Any updates or tips would be appreciated!
