Windows 10 pro activation

I had the windows 10 insider preview upgraded from windows 7 and it says it is not activated but how can I activate without a key since I did not buy windows 10 only windows 7???

Based upon the key you have there, where I can see the last 5 characters of mine we may have the *same* key... I'm not sure if that's intentional or otherwise....

I have the same problem and from the looks of it I also have the same same key. I called Microsoft and was told to wait 48 hours and it should activate and if it does not to call back then. The error code for the activation is
Error code: 0xC004C003 The description is that the activation server determined the specified product key has been blocked.

The computer was bought brand new 2 years ago with Windows 7 Pro installed.

The license sticker is installed on computer and is a valid license so I hope Microsoft honors this or I am going to be Pissed especially with so many people having the same validation key from Windows 7

You should be alright, all 4 of mine were fine once I waited. I did upgrades/installs/voodoo magic.

Then at random the laptop I had so many issues with activated, followed by a custom desktop, followed by my main computer (custom desktop as well).

It just took some time, I just wish the error didn't make it seem like you're using a pirated version, and stated the error was something on their end.

well, i see i am not the only one.

my situation is nearly identical to yours.  my Asus laptop is 4 years old and came with win7.

i then installed win8, win8.1 and win10 (clean install off of usb).

microsoft support person stated mysteriously to wait 24 hours and the activation error

should go away.  it has been over one day and now, i see the watermark

"Activate Windows" on the desktop.

so what do i do?

practice zen patience and just wait?

has anyone had this wait period actually materialize successfully?

I also have the same product key and same error code problem. based on the replies I read, should I wait for Microsoft to fix the problem or what.

"Upgraded" twice from legit version of Windows 8.1 with same result. MS Support told me wait 3 days for it to activate itself. Third day not activated yet. Just wait I guess.

in my case, i had to purchase a key (oem version for $139).

of course, it would have been nicer if i didn't have to but i don't feel too bad about it

for two reasons:

1) windows 10 is a good upgrade overall.

2) i made the "mistake" of doing a clean install before an upgrade and ensuring valid activation.

i was able to boot up the ancient Windows 7 (original that came with laptop) and found it did not have a valid product key.  so i concluded that all w10 technical previews did not have valid activations.

no amount of waiting on microsoft would have fixed my situation.
