Kinect v2 does not work with Surface Book with latest Windows 10 version1607

Hi,

Until recently I had no issues in using Kinect v2 on my Surface Book computer. Suddenly, after last week Windows and Surface Book firmware updates Kinect is not recognized anymore.

My configuration: Surface Book, i5/256

Kinect connected on the USB3 port of Surface Book

Powered either directly or via docking station

Kinect service set to use Nvidia card

Once I connect the USB cable the following happens:

- Kinect led (from the Kinect adapter) is either orange (as no connection) or flashing white

- After a few seconds, I get the following message popping up on the screen (message in the bottom right of the screen): "USB Device is not recognized...", followed up by the typical and infinitely repeating USB out sound

- In Device Manager I can see under the Universal Serial Bus controllers: Unknown USB Device (Set Address Failed)

- When I installed it first time the device was visible in the Devices, device Manager, etc. But was not starting the Kinect. After restart device was just not recognized.

What did I try?

- from removing devices, disable, etc...

- to reinstalling completely my Surface Book (yes... a few hours of work)

- tested Kinect on a desktop PC - works OK

- tested on a Surface3 even there works ok (I don't think that Surface3 has a USB 3 port... but, it works!)

- used Kinect verifier, which as always is listing that USB device is unknown (but this is not new since I had it in the past too)

Any idea? I believe it has to do with latest Windows 10 updates, drivers and latest Surface Book update too. Thank you!

Kind regards,

Gia

Hello.

I wish,  this thread seems dead to Microsoft.  I really wish they could address this issue or at least give us an update that they could be looking into it.....sigh.....

Hi Ian,

As you've mentioned, an update might be all that's needed to resolve this issue. To verify, does the issue exist even on Creators Update?

Regards.

Yes I / We have tried all the updates across multiple devices.  Surface books have the most issues.  We are able to get the Kinect V2 working on windows 10 desktops after vigorously using the device manager to disable stuff.  I have the newest creators update for my surface book which i sought out to see if it would fix the Kinect issue.  It did not fox it.

No one form Microsoft has helped us on this issue for months.

except telling me to call a 1-800 global support number which is never fun to do.....

The worst part about all of this again is that when i first bought my surface book and Kinect v2  everything worked great...(plug-and-play) it wasn't until the March 2017 windows 10 updates that broke everything.

It is ridiculous that we have the most expensive hardware sold by Microsoft, the Surface Book with performance base and another device also manufactured by them and still, they don't work.

I don't want to think Satya Nadella and Panos Panay are not willing to help their loyal customer base. Or that they don't care.

I guess there are no longer Microsoft engaged enough employees that want to take this issue, find the root cause and find a solution to it.

We are not talking about a cheap clone computer not recognizing a brand name device.

It is just disappointing.

Take a Surface book, with nothing on it, brand new, with the most recent version of windows 10 , plug it into a Microsoft Kinect dev2.  It does not work.

Buy another brand new Surface book, with the newest windows 10 updates, Buy a brand new Microsoft Kinect Dev 2, load all necessary drivers for the Kinect onto the Surface book.  Plug the Kinect in.  It will beep that it does not work until you lose your mind.

So if I buy 2 brand new Microsoft i-7 surface book products, I have to prepare to spend my time talking to Microsoft developers to see why the very expensive hardware does not work together???

The worst part about all of this again is that when I first bought my surface book and Kinect v2  everything worked great...(plug-and-play) it wasn't until the March 2017 windows 10 updates that broke everything.

There is no fix yet because one of us has to take the time and contact Global support and go through all the steps of: buy a surface book, buy a Kinect, plug the 2 together and you will see that they don't work.  Maybe if we send Microsoft a Kinect and Surface book they can plug them together and hear the sweet music of an infinite USB error noise....sorry for the sarcasm but i am really upset and cant believe there is no manager to speak to here.  Let us speak to your manager Microsoft windows 10 support!!!
