"You can play this game only on the console and HDD it was originally installed on"...!!??

I had this problem ages back, unfortunately you do have to re-install all your games but you can keep the save files. I think the games lock to a key on the system. It might be something to do with Arcade games locking to a system to stop you just transferring them to all you friends consoles.

You need to transfer you licenses. When you re-dowload through your history, it only takes a few seconds to verify the DL with the info you already have on your drive. If they are 360 Games that you installed then yes. Re-install.

Yeah, it appears to be some sort of DRM restriction but there is absolutely no possibility imaginable how this can halt any form of piracy.

Just a clear cut example of Microsoft desperately and illogically protecting their 'property' at the expense of its costumers.

Well than... delete, insert disc and install... rinse, repeat... sigh.

I had a 320 gig and a 250 gig  both go out on me and I now use a 4 gig .console and swap hard drives all the time.I have never had that message.Try downloading your licenses to your console.I think the licenses save to the console itself rather than the hard drive.If you still have to download the games it will be quick.Dont delete anything.Just re download.The progress bar will reach 80% in a matter of seconds then 100% a second or 2 later.

Let me explain. If I install Mass Effect for example I will still need the disc in the drive to play it.

However if I take that storage device (hard drive, USB etc) and put it onto another console, put the disc in the drive and try to play, the game will refuse to do so because the data was installed on another console. I then have to delete the game, reinstall the game, and then I will be allowed to play.

The OP is talking about a very odd restriction on disc based games, not downloaded ones.

Maybe it will let you re-install without deleting.In that case the process may happen in seconds just like redownloads.It wont hurt to try.
