USB Not Working on Xbox.

Welcome to the forums, you have come to the right place.

It seems unlikely that all of your USB ports would stop working all at the same time, so lets try some troubleshooting. Have you tried any other USB devices on your Xbox? For instance, have you tried charging your iPod on the other ports as well and it fails to charge on all of them (I'm not sure about the power output requirements for your iPod, I haven't tried this with mine)? And we are assuming your Xbox is otherwise operating OK (play games, navigate the dashboard w/o problems, etc.)?

If you've tried other devices and they all fail to charge or be recognized by the dashboard, double check the power brick connections (all the way from the wall into the powere brick, and the connection into the power brick into your Xbox). They should all be nice and snug.

Then try shutting off your Xbox completely, wait a few seconds and restrat it. After you get to the dashboard, plug in your USB flash device. Make sure it is fully plugged in snug (I've plugged some into mine and thought they were plugged in all the way only to find they were not). Navigate to the System tile and select Storeage. After a few seconds, all of the storage devices on your Xbox should be displayed. Regardless of it's formatting, it should still be recognized as a Storage Device - can you see it now? If not, move it to other USB ports, again making sure it is plugged in fully. A good time to see if your iPod charges - if it charged before, it should not stop charging unless it is fully charged IMHO.

Well, now that you mention it, one thing does seem a bit weird. When I navigate the dashboard, theres alot of lag... Well, a more accurate description would be the frame rate drops, but this is normal, right?

This is due to the chaching system I believe.

On top of that, there are no problems I have experienced, but this still gives me plenty to work on. I'll let you know how things go. Thanks!

RedSVO, it is actually not extremely unlikely that all the USB ports would stop working at the same time.  They are likely all driven by a central control chip.  

Having said that, have you tried all 3 ports, or just the front two?  The front two are definitely on the same control, and are likely powered by the same connection, whereas the rear one is probably powered from the same area as the rear ports.  

I wouldn't worry about it frying anything else.  It could be an indicator of impending hardware failure, but I've seen USB plugs fry on regular computers with no ill effects to the rest of the motherboard, so I'd probably not worry too much.  They are fairly self contained.

Out of curiosity, what kind of iPod is it?  If it's an iPod Shuffle that gets powered and read through the headphone jack, they have a tendency to fry USB ports, as there is a high likelihood of a short when plugging into that tiny 1/8th inch jack.

Dewstain, I have tried all USP ports. None of them work. My Ipod is a touch (an old one).

Do you think i should call in for repair? (Even though I hate shipping things to their factories)

Dude listen to me, I just had the same bloody problem and now it's fixed.  None of my usb ports were working at all.  Just turn off your xbox, unplug everything, absolutely everything from you xbox.  LEt it sit for about five minutes, then plug it all back in and start her up.  Should work like a charm.
