Trying to transfer content from my previous Xbox to my new one - NOTHING HAPPENS

Hello,

I have a serious issue with my Xbox hard drives. I have my old X360 Premium with a 250Go hard drive in it, and I bought a few months ago a new X360. I've tried yesterday to transfer all my saved games and content from the old one to the new one with an official transfer cable and followed all the steps in the right order, but nothing happens. The transfer software doesn't launch itself at console start, though my new console's system is up to date and everything works fine...

All my material - transfer cable, hard drives and consoles - are 100% legal, and moreover I had no trouble transfering my original 20Go drive to my 250Go drive on my old Xbox. But I have issues now, and what's more, my old Xbox's 250Go drive is not acknowledged by the new Xbox as such - it's identified as a non-configured storage device...

I used to call the official Xbox hotline in France every time I needed assistance but they are constantly closed now and I have no access to whatever support anymore, so I really hope someone will be able to help me in there - and tell me why the hell is there no hotline anymore in France for Xbox related matters.

Thank you for your time and help,

Lhynn

Hi there,

Have you tried clearing the caches on both systems, and trying the process again? As a temporary workaround, you could try using a USB memory stick in order to transfer data across. I know that requires a lot of patience and time, but that's all I can think of atm!.. :/

FYI, here is a related article: support.xbox.com/.../set-up-transfer-cable

Hope this helps,

Hello

It's weird that its not detecting it, considering your S model is up to date and should automatically pop up with the message once the console is turned on.  With that Said I will say make sure the console is off when your plugging everything in, though being that you've done it before you should know that.

Secondly, while it is time consuming, an alternate method would be to use a USB key to do the transfer process, and just tell it to take game saves. Then on the newer console your planning to use, transfer your license over and then use the history to download everything you own. Again this is under the assumption your older Xbox is still working and able to turn on to use USB.

As for the France issue, they only thing I can suggest is talking to the support chat online that's offered here under the support tab.  Do NOT select community chat, as you'll be talking to one of us online, unless of course you want to, but for issues regarding the France support number and why its always closed, I would talk to one of the staff that works for support.

Let us know whats up though.

Hello,

thx guys for taking the time to give a hand.

I've not tested your proposals yet but will do shortly. Just a couple of comments though.

Regarding the use of a USB key, there are some - many - game saves that CANNOT be copied and transferred in any other way than a transfer cable (for instance, Assassin's Creed series saves, Mass Effect saves etc.), therefore I think I would be able to copy about 60-70% of my saves. Considering the fact that I have about 60-70 Xbox games, this would both take HOURS to do, and be half useless because of all the saves left behind on the old Xbox (which, to answer your question, is still working).

Now, regarding support, I tried to use the online support but all the support options under the "Choose your contact option" tab are grey in my browser - I can't use them -, which is why I landed here, this forum was the only available option on my screen to click on...

Anyway, I'll try to empty my cache and try it all over again. If nothing happens, I'll try to call the Microsoft general suppor, hoping to find a solution. If you have other ideas that would help me or a feedback about your own similar experience, please feel free to share it with me !

I'll let you know soon about the outcome.

Cheers,

Lhynn

One other suggestion is backup all your saves to the cloud, since that is what seems to be the most important to you as a gamer! :)

So, here's the result :

- cleared the cache on both consoles

- did all the process 4 times in a row again

- nothing happens : the whole thing is an epic fail.

I'm out of solutions. Guess I will have to call Microsoft in the hope of finding someone to help me (not guaranteed...)

In a word : seems like I bought a new console for nothing. I feel screwed since I don't have the time nor the will to re-build all my saves (= thousands of hours of game) on the new Xbox.

Makes me wanna cry x'((

Hi Lhynn51! Sorry to hear about this experience! Typically the behavior you describe is caused by a non-official transfer cable. I know you mentioned yours is legal, but where did you purchase it exactly? If it was not from an authorized retailer, there is a small possibility that the cable was packaged to look official, but in fact could be an unauthorized replica.

u can try to tranfer all your saved games data, profile, pic, themes, to a usb drive. Then put new hard drive in - reformat - then tranfer all the data from usb back to new hard drive ..  Then redownload all your other content

Thx guys for your replies.

If I remember correctly, I bought my cable from the internet, not from Microsoft itself (too expensive) but from a game retailer. It sounds like a normal cable to me since it was in a official package AND I already transferred my data once - on the old Xbox, from the original 20Go drive to the 250Go drive I bought - and the transfer worked fine...

Moreover, does the cable change anything in the transfer process...? I thought the transfer software was in the console itself, not in the cable? Is it the reverse?

If so, what's next? Do I have to buy a new cable - 20€ wasted, thx Microsoft - or do I have to call Microsoft support instead? In any case, if a new cable doesn't solve my issue, I'll have it refunded ><

@REK : as I said previously, the problem is that I'd be able to transfer part of my saves and stuff using a USB key (would take hours..), BUT I would not be able to copy several saved games because they simply cannot be copied. Typically, Assassin's Creed saved games are copy-proof, same for Mass Effect and a few others (maybe the Forza Motorsport series etc.) So I wouldn't be able to transfer all my saved games. I can't format my drive under those conditions, those saved games left behind represent thousands of hours of game and I can't afford to lose them.
