problem with disc drive

hey, i have a new gen xbox, less than a year old, i tried to play my fairly scratched halo3, not expecting it to play because it was so beat up. as i predicted it didnt work. went back to playing cod4, but when i put the game in, it just said reading, then open tray. if i leave my xbox for a couple hours, i can play a game for about 15 minutes, and then it just says unable to read disc, then just says open tray. is there an easy fix to this? or do i have to send my xbox in?

to sum up: can play a game for 15 minutes, says disc unreadable, open tray message appears. what do?

apparently an isolated amount of xbox 360s do  this due to the xbox update. I would call xbox and see what they can do

That's what my old-school 360's would do right before they bunked out.

Yeah, it may or may not have something to do with the update. There have been a lot of reports incoming regarding how the update caused various issues with their Xbox 360 consoles. However, the disc read error happens to quite a number of consoles and was an issue long before the update came out. Mine is currently suffering from that issue. Anyway, since you said it is less than a year old, then you must have the warranty on it. Call Xbox customer support (1800-4-MY-XBOX) or just go to the support section on their website and go through the troubleshooting menu. You can also place an order for repair there.

Try clearing system cache, open and close the drive and it should work. If not, try taping, NOT banging, the little vent thing in front of the hard drive on the older xbox 360 but not sure about where you would tap on the slim.
