MIC!!

Since day one on this thing I've had trouble talking with friends.  Mic of original headset would take 5 min to kick in and start working.  Sometimes I would have to restart to get it to work.  The regular head set started to get static to friends side and my voice would cut in and out.  Sent them back to Microsoft for replacement.I bought the Microsoft stereo headset last week.  Worked great the first day.  Went to join a party the next day and I couldn't get sound to play through it ( yes I updated the controller).  Played with the chat/ game sound options with no luck.  I returned them and bought another pair.  Again, the new pair worked great the first day, then tried to get on them the next day and mic wasn't working.  Can hear the game and friends through the headphones, but can't get the little green circle in party chat to light up and show my mic working, friends also can't hear me.  Now I seem to have to reboot the xbox 1 to 2 times to get the mic to work.  Think it could be the controller?  Xbox itself? or stereo headset? or headset adapter?  Anyone else having these issues?  I just feel my mics haven't worked right since I got this day one xbox.

What headset are you plugging in and is that headset compatible?

Party chatting in many cases is silenced when  you join.  YES even after the update but now it shows you in the party, and it appears that you're talking but actually if you wait a few minutes you will get a message later that you're not really in the party.

I learned this is related to your router or WiFi connection and ports.

IF you have a CTIA headset (the type of 3.5mm cable) then I would mess with the router ports (sorry no suggestions)

If you have a OMTP headset (compatible with an iPhone) that is the issue so in essence you've actually been chatting through the Kinect and didn't realize it. Now that you've connected the xbox one stereo adapter the Kinect chat is disabled so you were never using the mic on your headset.

Kinda need more info to make a conclusion, let us know what you're using.

Just call me "Smurf"

Hi fishbait1,

When you start up the party and your mic doesn't work, stick yourself in front of the kinect for a few seconds so it can recognise that you are holding the controller and it should then start picking up your voice.

The headset I returned was the original headset that came with the xboxone.  The new headset is the microsoft xbox one stereo headset with adapter.  I will look into the router issue.  Its just strange it works after restarting the xbox a few times.

Sniffles:  I'm usually already signed in, but next time I try I will allow the kinect to see I have my controller.

Yea, give it a go. Even though you are signed in, it still may not know which controller you are using if the kinect hasn't verified that.

On what Sniffles is saying, instead of just waiting in front of Kinect, when standing in front of it with controller in hand, go to the Home screen and click A on your display picture at the top and on your profile select "Choose this person." This lets the console know that this controller is in fact being controlled by this user and it routes the chat through that controller/headset. Try this, although this is more often a solution for when you cannot even hear the game or party chat.

If it still does not work:

Did you update the controller (Settings/System/Update Controller) per the support article's instructions? Did you remove the batteries when doing so? Did you have the adapter and headset plugged in while doing so? If no to any of these, try again with doing all of this and see if it improves the situation, and complete steps are here: support.xbox.com/.../update-controller-for-stereo-headset-adapter

Let us know how you get on.

Im having a similar problem. My mic functions just fine, mute light comes on, beeping while turning up volume, but when i start a party it will not pick up my voice. This started a wk ago while playing BF4. The party i was in randomly started having issues registering everyone's voices for everyone, some would come thru and others wouldn't, after rejoining the party no one could hear me but i could hear them. After a hard reset and hours of troubleshooting, i've found no solution that worked for others. Ive also noticed when my mic is unplugged the console still registers it being plugged in. performing a hard reset i thought would take care of this problem but since hasnt. Any information on a new process would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks MS.

I am using the PS4 Gold headset with my xbox, and my friends say I am too loud lol so if I talk very softly it works great.
