i have gold but i want family

i just bought an xbox 360 yeseterday..i also bought an prepaid gold xbox live membership....i thought it would be similar to ps3 that even though you have to pay for it ...you would get to use that membership on any accounts on xbox...i realize now thats not true. I have found there is a family plan of up to 4 accounts for 99.99. Having just paid the 59.99 i dont think i should have to for out another 100.00. so is there a way they could credit my account and cancel the single gold membership? that way i could just pay the remaining ballance of 40.00 instead of a grand total of 160.00?
